ridiculously scrawny

The other evening (Monday, to be exact) our family was headed out to a neighborhood block party... the boys got dressed at 6:00 pm (don't judge me) and were excited to ride their bikes into the sunset. In the garage, Luke pointed out that Zack was wearing super-TIGHT shorts. Everyone started laughing as we realized that Zack had put on a pair of Simon's pants-- Old Navy, size 6-12 months! Luke pulled at the bottom of the "shorts" and made them into a skirt-- undoing all the snaps for easy access to a diaper. Zack snapped them back up, shrugged his shoulders and laughed about it. He was ready to go and have a good time and didn't mind that he was wearing baby clothes.

All evening, he pranced around and was proud to show off his new shorts. I love that he is himself no matter what. Zack is never ashamed, even when others are pointing fingers and laughing. Come to think of it, he's in his element when people are pointing and laughing at him. Oh, snap!

The next day (0r maybe a day after that, I don't know) We were organizing the boys' closets... Zack has now moved into Simon's room, more later on that subject. As we were getting out Simon's summer clothes, Luke thought he would show-up his little brother and prove that HE fits in the baby's clothes. I could not believe my eyes... My tall, seven year old can wear 6 month old clothing. I kid you not! I've always known they were skinny boys, but I was laughing SO HARD watching Luke slide on and off the tiniest shorts. Ben was also amused, but he's too mature to participate in the baby clothes fashion show. Anyway, I only took one picture of Luke-- in a pair of shorts he wore when he was a baby. The scrapbook page is posted below to prove it. Don't you love that "spare tire" coming out of the top of the shorts? A foreign exchange student in college told me that a nicer way to say "spare tire" is "love handle". I don't think either are nice to have.

June 2003.
Luke was 4 months old, wearing the SAME pair of orange shorts!

PS. Melita, I had to laugh at your last comment when you said your baby doesn't fit in the bumbo anymore. All four of my boys can (and often do) sit in the pink bumbo. That just proves they all have scrawny, baby bums. I am the only one in the family that doesn't belong to the ridiculously skinny club. Why do I always have to be the odd man girl out?

Are you sick of these yet?

This is the last round of the random pics... I promise I won't bore you any longer. I have had quite a fun time organizing and watching all the random videos that we've taken this year. It's sad we have to take a temporary break from our everyday 60-second video clips. Good news is that we found our camera in our garage. Bad news is that we ran over it with our car. Good news is that we have insurance coverage that will give us a new one. Bad news is we will have to wait a couple of weeks for them to ship it to us. Good news is our waitress didn't steal it. Bad news is that we judged her. Good news is even though we broke our display screen on the back of the camera, everything else works and we are still able to download. Bad news is that when you take a picture, you can't see how it turns out. I feel like it's the 19th century when people took a picture and weren't able to see it until much later. The flash goes off and I cross my fingers it turns out okay. Most of the time, it does. I've only chopped off a couple of heads so far.

To start of my last round of random pictures, I am posting the picture of myself and Simon at the restaurant just minutes before we thought our beloved camera was gone forever. I said earlier that I looked gorgeous, but I have a habit of exaggerating. Will you forgive me? I knew you would.

Ben takes his little buddy with him everywhere... even up on the top bunk. Simon thinks it's pretty cool to hang out with the big kids.

We lived through our first Pinewood Derby experience. It was pretty radical watching Aaron make the car with Ben. Without going into detail, I will mention that Aaron came home from work, took off his tie, went out in the back yard with a blow-torch, poured melted fish weights into the back of Ben's car and we rushed off to the derby. The car was still hot when it weighed in at 4.9 ounces.. The cars are disqualified if they weigh over 5.0 ounces. Ben's car kicked booty and we had a great time. It's awesome when the most ghetto looking car wins all the races. Here are the boys painting their cars in the laundry room just before Dad got home from work. If only I had my camera while Aaron had the blow-torch (or at the race itself.) Someone else took pictures and was supposed to email me. If only I could remember who. Photobucket

This is a typical afternoon at our house. These three boys can be found here any day of the week building something gnarly. I love that they love each other. And I love that Ben is turning into a gangsta.

A good evening consists of cookie dough, bananagrams and piggy back rides. Photobucket

A field trip to the Bellagio Conservatory. Have I mentioned how much I love spring?

A field trip to the chocolate factory. I could talk more about this place and the couple who founded Mars candy bars, but I won't. It was a good day. We always like hanging out with the Humes! Little Emma is a built-in babysitter. I need a daughter!

A couple of pics with my parents. I wonder how many times my mom played Sorry with the boys... too many to count. Sorry, mom!

And my dad was wickedly good at bananagrams. Tootsie is good at not biting Zack when he mauls her. Zack is good at looking sexy with his shirt unbuttoned.

During our quick visit to Utah in January, we tried to go sledding. This sled was my grandmas and was so old and terrible. We didn't have any fun. But we did take a picture.
Photobucket

Also in Utah, we hung out with my silly niece Paisley. She loved kissing Aaron. She and I have something in common. We're both silly.

I need to write a whole post on how much we love these girls. Oh wait, I've done that several times already.
Photobucket

The Garmon kids... I should have included this with the first round.
Photobucket

Should have included these with Zack's birthday/Simon's blessing day.
Photobucket
Zack's cake was UG... He spelled his name with skittles and wanted mini oreos on the bottom. I let him have at it, because after all- it was his big day.

This belongs with the "pictures I didn't take" post. I wish I could have the credit. A shot like this makes my heart happy.

These were taken on a Saturday when Dad and the kids went to the park while I ran errands solo. I'm so glad someone captured it on camera.

I told Luke to change his outfit before they left for the park (that's a pajama top) but apparently he didn't listen... and I've got evidence!
Photobucket
I KNOW I didn't put him in the crib like this.
I would have moved the mound of blankets from under him and taken off his shoes..
Photobucket
and I would have never taken a picture so close to his face,
but I'm glad someone else did. Love that mug.
