not this cute anymore!After all those high school posts, nobody actually knows what's going on in our current CRAZY life. We have been homeless for a couple of weeks... We moved out of our fancy townhouse on Aug. 1st... and put our stuff in temporary storage. Our house isn't scheduled to close until Aug 25th... we are crossing our fingers that it will actually close on time and not a month later :)
We stayed in a hotel for a week in Vegas, took a trip to Cali (had a great time at the beach and Aaron and I went to see Wicked!) Then the kids and I headed up to Utah to visit family and friends while Aaron worked his tail off and payed for all our excursions. He flew up just in time to attend my HS reunion with me (and had the time of his life--not.) Then we headed back to Vegas for a little more R&R at another hotel close to his work... If our house doesn't close in time, we will drive to Arizona to visit Aaron's parents in the White Mountains.. Does that sound like CHAOS or WHAT? I am surviving... sometimes I want to pull my hair out, but I am enjoying myself for the most part. I haven't had access to a computer in over three weeks.. (so *glad* our laptop crashed just before we moved!) I was able to quickly write my HS posts before we packed up and they've posted on their own. (For those of you who don't know how to change the date of when you want your post to publish, click on POST OPTIONS.. you can back post or schedule for the future) But even though my blog has been somewhat updated, I feel completely out of touch with everyone (I haven't read or commented on anyone's blogs for weeks..)
My two biggest frustrations (besides not having a place to live :) is the fact that my camera has 500 pictures on it and I am unable to download them.. and that my kids are saying HILARIOUS things and I am not documenting them as they happen. Seriously, there is no way I can remember a month's worth of funny things they've said. And let me tell you, when you are staying in a small hotel room for a week at a time, you realize how hilarious they really are. I haven't needed any other sources of entertainment.. who needs a computer or TV when your kids keep you amused?
Life for the Shumways is usually smooth sailing, but when it rains it POURS. We thought life was crazy last summer-- but we got through it, things seemed to fall into place and settle down for a while, and now we're going through a whole new "adventure." A year ago today, Aaron and I were laying on beach in Hawaii, sipping pina colodas and enjoying life without kids... what I would GIVE to be there again! We are seriously LAUGHING about our situation because if we don't laugh about it, we would get divorced, sell our kids and join the circus. Everything seemed to crash down on us all at once.. but we are survivors! Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed for us! Ta-ta for now. I hope to be settled and back in business sometime in the Fall.

Crazy!! Hope things go well with the house closing and you can get back to some form of normal soon!
That does sound like chaos, but also an adventure. I'll bet you are making memories of a lifetime (20 years from now, "remember when we lived in a hotel for a month mom, that was soooo cool!")
Janet Clawson... I mean Shumway! I have missed you sooo much and isn't it sad that I didn't realize how much until I saw you again last week. You have inspired me to start a blog and I love you for it. You are the BEST, I truly miss you! We can't wait that long next time. You have the cutest boys... Ha, maybe I should READ before I try to ask you questions. I'll be calling you soon! Until then-enjoy your kids( I mean how often do you get to be BY YOURSELF with your kids and no other outside distractions) and a wonderful excuse to not have to clean!
Now I feel like my life is so normal. At least the timing has been good to be homeless, as far as time of year to visit places and family, your HS reunion, etc. You could just think of it as one gigantic vacation. Either way, we all miss you and can't wait for you to get back. Hopefully, your house closes right on time, so you can be settled by early fall.
That is for sure CHAOS! What a fun adventure for your boys though! I hope the hotel has a pool :) and I will keep my fingers crossed that your house closes on time.
We had to live with my parents for two months while we waited for our house to close, and even in a stable place I felt so displaced. It's a horrible feeling. And Aaron was sure missing you when you were in Utah and he was here. You could tell just by looking at him. So I really hope your house closes on time, too, so you can start getting back to normal.

i love the title of your post "WE've only just begun" i do believe that it is also the title of an old carpenters song that just so happens to be mine and chris's song.. Okay so it may have been his parents song first but we are slowly but surely taking the song over for our very own!! I am so excited for your new place! and i still can't believe we could stay up until 5AM talking. I don't think i have done that anytime in the past decade and it was due time for sure!! LOVE YOU
