Today my parents celebrate their 38th wedding anniversary. They were married in the Calgary Alberta LDS temple. The night before they were married, it was 26 degrees below zero. The families drove up in three separate cars... and on the way two of the three cars broke down. The only remaining car was my dad's dad's old van... instead of seats, there was an old couch in the back... and twelve people piled into that van and drove to Alberta. When they arrived at the motel, my grandma (Roma) was sitting in the passengar's seat and said to her husband, "Fred-- you drove over a dead chicken! Back up!" He backed up and sure enough, Roma picked up a frozen stiff chicken. Everyone laughed.
The ceremony was special because it was a double wedding. My mom's brother was married in the same room just minutes before my parents were sealed. My mom was very close to her brother. He died only two short years after they were married.
That evening, their reception was held in Great Falls, MT at my mother's church. Poinsettas were their flower and they will always remind me of my parents and the love they have for each other.
They have been nothing but exemplary parents to me. They have taught me, by example, why it's so important to stick together through the good times and the bad. They have ten children, twenty-six and a half grandchildren, and so much LOVE for every one of us. And we are all so grateful to have them in our lives. Happy Anniversary Les and Bev! Here's to 38 years and forever more to go!

not this cute anymore!

Oh, WOW! I've never seen a picture of your mom that young and I am in shock at how much she looks like you. Amazing.
Happy Anniversary to your parents!! They are indeed a great example of a loving and lasting marriage.
Your parents are amazing people. I really admire your mom especially (I'll be honest, I don't think I've ever carried a conversation with your dad). I hope they have a great anniversary!
Happy Anniversary to Les and Bev and I totally agree with what Sheri said! You look a lot like your mom!
That is such a sweet picture of a very sweet couple.
they got married in canada! they're marriage is guaranteed to be a celestial one... eh?!
Congrats. Fun to see a pic of them back in the day. I can totally see all ten of you in them.
My Dad used to talk about your parent's wedding (his brother). I can't remember what his funny story about the wedding was. I remember the broken down cars, but there was another funny story. Wait! I remember! He used to tell us their wedding was so cold, his (or somebody's) carnation shattered when he touched it. You'll have to check the facts on that one. You know how my dad used to exaggerate when he told stories!!!
at first i was a little weirded out when I saw the pic of you and Dave posing as a bride and groom...but then i got it. GREAT post. love to see the old wedding pics and hear about love stories. My parents anniversary is
Dec 20th, 39 years for them. Amazing to think about the ripple affect one couple can have.
I always thought you looked like your mom, but I never realized that Tim looks exactly like your dad.
That is pretty sweet that your dad had a van with a couch in the back. He must have been a real ladies man.
I have to set a couple of things straignt. Becky - Don't feel alone, I have never really carried on a conversation with anyone. Phil - That was not my van but my dad's van. I am not a real ladies man. Well, maybe one lady's man. Bethany - The story your dad tells is that he was sick and ate some pepto bismo pills and stuck his tongue out that was all black and he said that he had the black plague. By the way, I still am happily married to my wonderful wife because she could put up with me for all these years. She is the reason that we had 10 great kids and 26 wonderful grand children and not a dummy in the bunch. Thanks, Janet for being a part of all of it. Love, Dad
Thanks, Janet, for writing about our anniversary! It's even more fun to hear your daughter tell the story. I enjoyed reading the comments too! Merry Christmas, & I love you! Mom
