E DeG on AI

I might be a cold-hearted snake (uh-o-oh) but I am 100% thrilled about American Idol's new judge. Move over, Abdul...

Let's face it, after Paula announced her comeback album and then performed on the AI stage-- the executives just couldn't bring her back. Hasta la vista, baby. Paula may have choreographed a few numbers for the contestants, but we all know Ellen's got dance moves that can blow Ms. Abdul out of the water.

The show will be shorter without Paula's rambling and I can guarantee you we will see a LOT less cleavage with Ellen on the bench. Now we will be able to laugh with the judges instead of at them. Brilliant move, Fox.

Granted, everyone is worried that the contestants aren't going to be able to survive without Paula's graciousness, but I disagree. Ellen is warm and genuine... and everyone (especially the contestants) are going to love her. She may not have an extensive career in the music industry, but we have Simon Cowell's expertize for that.

Next year, I hope they sack Randy Jackson and replace him with Hugh Jackman. Do you think it could happen? After Ellen's big announcement, I believe anything is possible. I saw in Walmart yesterday that Randy has a new line of eye wear... he might be looking for a career change, anyway.

The real question is this: Do we really have to wait until January for Season 9 to begin?

I am so excited for the change too. I was getting a little bored with the show the last few seasons and with Ellen there it will be worth watching again! It's not too hard to wait since they brought back another season of "So You Think You Can Dance" this fall!

No way! I'm going to watch the show now just to see what she says. I love Ellen. I'm glad I have you to keep me up on TV world.

Sorry, but I'm not so excited about the change. While I was as tired of Paula as everyone else, I am not a fan of Ellen's. Did you watch her on SYTYCD last season? Every single comment she made was all about herself, nothing really about the participants. Which, I thought at least, was what the show was actually about. Sure, she was funny, but it was so tiring after a while. And, judging from her performance on SYTYCD, I would guess her comments won't be any less lengthy or rambling than Paula's. Just in a different way.

Why couldn't they just stick with the 3 judges left? They were all at least competent.

So true. We really dislike Paula. Seriously, her comments are LAMO. And, I totally would love it if Hugh Jackman replaced Randy. I mean, did you see Australia? It was the dumbest show, but I loved the part when he dumped the bucket of water over his hed. Wow...

You totally keep me hip...except that I never watch American Idol, but at least now I feel like I know what's going on. I may start watching just because I really like Ellen? We'll see.

Yes, I saw Ellen on SYTYCD. It was the only episode I saw of the season. She was a bit over the top-- but I highly doubt she will be like that on idol. She really does have an opinion. Whether or not it's "professional" doesn't really matter-- at least to me anyway.

And Ellen on SYTYCD was a million times better than the other judge who screams everything. They need to sack that girl... and replace her with Oprah.

I like Ellen...but after seeing her on SYTYCD I'm not impressed with her as a judge. Hopefully she will get some pointers and widen her selection of comments before her AI debut! I was almost embarrassed for her on SYTYCD.

Being a judge on SYTYCD is an ENTIRELY different story that American Idol. What do you say to the dancers if you're not an expert? If they threw me up on that judging panel, I would talk about myself too.

Singing, however is completely different. We all know what sounds good and what doesn't. I truly believe Ellen will give an opinion that many of us are thinking at home. She is a true fan and knows how to talk in complete sentences. and, AND she won't be showing close ups of her looking at the teenagers like a love-sick puppy dog.

Just you wait.. it's gonna be a great thing.

I totally agree. My ONLY concern is that her hilarity will take away from the contestants...because it was starting to become more about how entertaining Paula & Simon were than how well the contestants sang. SO, having said that--that's just a concern, not a firm opinion.

I agree with you about the dancing thing. It's hard to tell if someone's ankle doesn't twist just right during a random dance that not everyone knows...but 95% of people can hear a flat note. Singing is just more instinctive in my opinion. I can't wait to see Ellen with Ryan, too. They're little buddies.

Hugh Jackman is scruptious! So is Ellen (in a funny way - I don't swing that way!) Anyway, I am excited to watch AI now, and I have never been more than a casual fan, only watching sporadically. Now I'm kind of excited to tune in!
