ridiculously scrawny

The other evening (Monday, to be exact) our family was headed out to a neighborhood block party... the boys got dressed at 6:00 pm (don't judge me) and were excited to ride their bikes into the sunset. In the garage, Luke pointed out that Zack was wearing super-TIGHT shorts. Everyone started laughing as we realized that Zack had put on a pair of Simon's pants-- Old Navy, size 6-12 months! Luke pulled at the bottom of the "shorts" and made them into a skirt-- undoing all the snaps for easy access to a diaper. Zack snapped them back up, shrugged his shoulders and laughed about it. He was ready to go and have a good time and didn't mind that he was wearing baby clothes.

All evening, he pranced around and was proud to show off his new shorts. I love that he is himself no matter what. Zack is never ashamed, even when others are pointing fingers and laughing. Come to think of it, he's in his element when people are pointing and laughing at him. Oh, snap!

The next day (0r maybe a day after that, I don't know) We were organizing the boys' closets... Zack has now moved into Simon's room, more later on that subject. As we were getting out Simon's summer clothes, Luke thought he would show-up his little brother and prove that HE fits in the baby's clothes. I could not believe my eyes... My tall, seven year old can wear 6 month old clothing. I kid you not! I've always known they were skinny boys, but I was laughing SO HARD watching Luke slide on and off the tiniest shorts. Ben was also amused, but he's too mature to participate in the baby clothes fashion show. Anyway, I only took one picture of Luke-- in a pair of shorts he wore when he was a baby. The scrapbook page is posted below to prove it. Don't you love that "spare tire" coming out of the top of the shorts? A foreign exchange student in college told me that a nicer way to say "spare tire" is "love handle". I don't think either are nice to have.

June 2003.
Luke was 4 months old, wearing the SAME pair of orange shorts!

PS. Melita, I had to laugh at your last comment when you said your baby doesn't fit in the bumbo anymore. All four of my boys can (and often do) sit in the pink bumbo. That just proves they all have scrawny, baby bums. I am the only one in the family that doesn't belong to the ridiculously skinny club. Why do I always have to be the odd man girl out?

My girls can fit into the bumbo too. They love it.
And, my four year old wore the baby's 6-12 month old pants as shorts several times last year...and she loved it!

I totally could not stop laughing. I am pretty sure that my middle boy that is 7 could fit in baby 6 month old clothes too....I might have to try it sometime :D. Where do you come up with your ideas for your blog, because I really have a hard time finding things. Maybe it is because I am way too serious. :)

Thanks for your great posts.

Too funny. Audrey is in year 3 of wearing her favorite khakis.

We have the same problem at our house. In fact, the word "skinny" is frowned upon. This was rule inacted by Dave. "thin" is much more appropriate. I'm sure scrawny would be veto'd as well.

I use the term "muffin top" instead of "spare tire" or "love handle". None of them are nice, though... ;D

When Joshy saw the 1st picture of Luke, he said, "Look! He's going swimming!" I thought that was pretty funny, since he didn't know they were baby shorts, but rather thought they were swimming trunks.

And Avery spent a good chunk of time in the pink bumbo today.
