but Cook will Always be My Baby.
Last night when I finally got in bed, Aaron said something to the fact that he couldn't believe I didn't post something about David Cook's win. I responded with something like, "You don't know me as well as you think you do." But the truth is, he does... and I wanna talk about it.
It was a little heartbreaking not having Archie sing the last song. He was so cute as he graciously walked off stage after the results came in. Why are we all so emotionally invested in this little boy? His silky voice had me captivated and I just wanted him to win it! After watching the finale and hearing him perform with One Republic, I felt frustrated that he didn't sing more songs like that during the season.. because that's what I wanted to hear! I just think he chose songs that were written for EFY soundtracks or firesides.. It doesn't matter if he can sing the phone book... we want to hear something current and ready for the radio. Or at least I do anyway. But I can't deny that every time he sang, I knew the church was true...
It's no secret that I LOVE David Cook. He seriously rocks and I am already loving his studio recorded songs. I was shocked by the results because most of the people I talk to are Archie fans and I just wasn't expecting a 12 million vote victory. I do NOT think it was rigged.. David Cook earned his title and deserves to celebrate because he seriously defeated the Giant.
Do you think the rest of the country was as SHOCKED as the Mormon community? Because I think most of us thought Archie had the win in the bag.. I am interested on what you think. For those of you who live outside Utah, was the hype on Archie as big as we all thought it was?

Here's to another great Idol year.. and to BOTH Davids who will have long and successful careers.

not this cute anymore!

I was totally SHOCKED and heartbroken! Although I know I loved him because his voice is amazing, it is cool that he is from my hometown and that he's such a great example. Some of my friends who aren't LDS didn't think he was as good as I did.. interesting take.
I really did NOT think Cook was going to win. I am still wondering if that is what happened last night. I know, get a life.
It's hard not to LOVE archie and feel investing in his future. We will all have to buy his CD and send him fan mail!
A few neighbors on my street told me there was NO chance Archuleta would win and I was so surprised to hear that. And Vegas radio hasn't been very nice to him.. always playing silly clips of him laughing and saying stuff (that I am SURE wasn't in response to the question that was asked) But I am sure they are just jealous of his purity!
Hi Janet, I have to comment on this! We don't live in a very heavily populated lds area, but a lot of my friends who are lds wanted David Cook. I don't know if it's because we aren't surrounded by the talk of David A. or what. Even my own mother thought David Cook was a little better.
Just my thoughts. I thought bother were fabulous. It will be interesting to see what people say.
oh.. I was also going to say that Aaron found an article that showed how many votes came from which states and UTAH was either the highest or second highest in voting numbers.. I will have to get the link before I quote it. I also read that when Brooke White was out of the competition, Archie's votes went up substantially.. I really don't think that Mormons vote for that reason only, but we are a supportive group.
it was NOT a shock to me or anyone living in Jersey. I was a total loner fan for Archie-- people made fum of me for liking him. but I didn't fall into peer pressure and stood my ground. I really wanted him to win so I could rub it in the face of all my friends here, but oh well. I guess cook is good too.

I can't speak intellegently on the subject because American Idol has never been my gig, but I do know that the only hype I read or heard about David A. was on blogs. All of which were LDS friends.
I live in Utah (for now), but I have many friends outstide of Utah, and NOT A ONE of them liked David Archuleta. A couple of them disliked him so much that they would fast-forward through his performances. I was not surprised that he didn't win, because the ONLY people I knew who had any faith in him were from Utah. I was included in that group, though... I liked him. I liked the entire top 5 group though... I wasn't picky this year. David Cook was one of my very faves from day 1 though, so the outcome is a good one, I say!
I happen to HATE Mormons, and loved Archie.. so how do you figure that one out? No, it might be that I live in Utah and always saw the hype about him on the local channels. The radio stations here would never make fun of him because he was our man. I was totally blown out of the water when they said David Cook won. I seroulsy thought they said the WRONG name and made a mistake.
and I was kind of kidding about hating Mormons.. there are a few that aren't so bad :)
loving all these Anonymous comments.. you're finally coming out of the dark, even if you don't want to state your name. Welcome.
This was not meant to be a David A bashing post.. so watch what you say in my [internet] presence. Chosing between the Davids was like deciding which child I loved most. It wasn't easy for me.. but I did it because I had to. and no, I won't tell you which child wins..
It was rigged. With Simon apologizing and all...blah.
There is no question who was better Tuesday night, but it came down to a popularity contest. Which is how it goes. The best man doesn't always win. And the masses are asses (I heard that one from my dad last night-totally funny right? :)
I think they are both very talented and will have their own careers and success.
I'm a Utahn and didn't know Archie was LDS until a few weeks ago. I should get out more.
I was disappointed with the outcome as my parents were even though all the papers said Cook would take the title.
The show kind of dragged on for me. I did however LOVE Ryan Seafoam breakdancing, Mike Myers, Jimmy Kimmel, Gladys Knight and her pips as well as Seal and Seyesha's duet. George Michael needs new shades, Carrie needs a new dress and they need to keep it to one hour!! For pete's sake!
I'm glad it's over. I'm sick of listening to Paula's incomplete sentences. Ugh.
Congrats to both Davids.
I don't watch American Idol...one of the few, it seems. However, i have flipped through the channels and have wathced bits and peices. That said, I think that they were both good singers, but I felt like falling asleep listening to little David sing. Don't get me wrong, he has a nice voice, but her doesn't have the range of music that Big David can preform. I just can't see Little David rockin out to the same type of songs that Big David did.
They both have a future in music, Little David will do well selling his music at Deseret Books.
Was that harsh?
P.S. To the anonymous who HATES Mormons...not all of us are like the ones in Utah. Do you realize that Utah ranks #1 for being the vainest place in the US?
I grew up in Utah, so I feel like i can say that Utah Mormons can be a little vain, not all of them are, and most of them don't even know how vain they are, but all Mormons shouldn't be judged by the typical Utah Mormon.
oh.. now we're going to get into the UTAH MORMON discussion, are we? Well that's when I start taking it personally. I am pretty sure the anonymous who HATES Mormons is kidding.. because I know who you are and if you're serious, then I hate you back. But let's not classify UTAH Mormons into their own group. If you think they are judgmental and close minded then you are a hypocrite! Can't we all just get along??
I love Utah Mormons and David Cook, Smart Dressed Man, come on...whew, that was hot! Don't tell my husband.I think we should all just... have a party! My favorite part of the night was Gladis Knight, Those Pipps...now that was hot! hee! hee! Seriously, I loved that part.
Whatever, it is Midnight here in Virginia and my husband is wondering where I am. I am out of my mind tired. I know it's 'SHARP DRESSED MAN'
People- seriously? 'Utah Mormons'- it's so stereotypical... there are stupid Mormons everywhere, and stupid people everywhere, and vain people everywhere. I've been most places- and trust me- we are all stupid and GREAT, religion aside.
I think it was Satan himself, Simon Cowell who said that Archuleta was better, followed up by a 'please let me produce your album' apology.
Cook finally won me over last night- He did have a deserving win, and was very entertaining- that what it's all about- I do think our little David was the better singer- just maybe not the better entertainer. We should expect the most votes from any contestants home town- that's not about being mormon, that's just about location- no brainer.
Congrats Cook- I'm a girl- and I am crazy for a sharp dressed man- minus the weirdo boots :) I could listen to that song all day. LOVED IT!!
Sitting back reading the comments here was entertainment enough for me! I too was a david fan this year.
Janet, I think I'm going to need a friend around here, all these others are jumping ship (I'm beginning to think I'm a catalyst for 'The back to UTAH' move).
Ack, I'm scared to comment now. Whoever Arah is has me bugged. It's not about what state you live in. I've lived in both Utah and Arizona, and the Arizona Mormons can be cocky and vain because they DON'T live in Utah. It's totally prideful and contradictory. If we all worship Jesus Christ, shouldn't we love people the way He does and not JUDGE AND/OR label them? No matter where they live?
Now on to the topic at hand--I loved Val and Dee's comments. Simon=Satan. I've never liked him, and I never will. I think he knew what he was doing on Tuesday night with the whole "TKO" and then an apology on Wednesday. Smooth Simon..very smooth.
I figured Cook would win though--and I was right. He's a sweet guy though. It's all good.
CALM Down everyone, calm down!
Let's not let our cattiness get carried away. This was a simple discussion and obviously we have different opinions. Let's leave it at that. Breathe.. relax and let bygones be bygones.
If you're talking to me, you can just say so :) I'll calm down. I promise. *breathing into a paper bag*
Oh my goodness... that was good, a little intense. David Archuleta has a POWER voice and should have won in my opinion. I was actually surprised but I live in Mormonville and everyone I know was rooting for him except for Jason's Grandmere who is NOT Mormon. David Cook is GOOD though and will probably sell more albums. I'll buy both. American Idol is great and brings out such intense feelings!! Can't wait for next year!
cook always deserved to win... had it been a few years later, he may have been in trouble... david a. needs some experience, but is amazing too...
Some funny comments here. I was a bit bummed that David A. didn't win, but I also felt torn about wanting him to win because David C. is SUCH a good performer! I loved the 'big brother, little brother' relationship they had going. You could tell they both respected each other. Little David has a great voice, but he could use some more experience. David C. only had a few more years before he was too old for the competition. So I thought it worked out nice.
As for Mormons... (I can't not comment), I get so sick of the judegements going between 'Utah Mormons' and 'Out-of-State Mormons.' For heavens sake, we are focusing on all the wrong stuff. Sometimes I really want to tell all people of our faith to get their head out of the clouds and identify their basic beliefs and just live it. 'Cause truth is truth. Stick to the basics and live your religion and forget what other people think. If you are worried about other people and their 'stupidity' or judgements, then you are missing the point of your own religion. Which is sad, because it is full of such hope and peace and beauty. Imagine if all that extra energy were focused on pure truth. Man, that would be so cool!
I have a crush on David Cook. I don't know where it comes from. Maybe it's from the dream I had the other night where I was in the top ten with him, and we liked each other...weird, I know. Anyway, I have always been a fan, especially since the haircut and 'Billy Jean'. I like Archie too, but he should keep some songs more simple and not do so many runs all the time.
