Book #2 ------ Return of the Jedi

.
I am finally posting pictures of 2008's BLOG BOOK!

I went with BLURB again and even though it took a while to edit, I am very please with the outcome... as well as the price. It's 440 pages, 8X10 hardbound.. Inside is over 2500 pictures of our year. I paid $96 (including shipping.) It was printed and shipped in about 3 days. As far as I am concerned, this is the best blog printing company... and I am not even getting paid to say that. Now, here are a "few" pages of the massive book. --26 to be exact. Hopefully if will give you an idea of the different formats you have to choose from. Take a lookie.

The only complaint I have is: it seems like the pages were trimmed more than what I saw on my final draft.. Thus, a few of my borders were cut off. But I have never been a perfectionist, and I am not going to let it bother me. If you're about to do a book of your own, make sure you give your images extra chopping space (on all edges.)

My favorite pages are the kids' artwork, the funeral program and the Christmas cards... things that I want to keep anyway, but are filed away and never get looked at. I love that they are now accessible AND I don't feel guilty about throwing away the originals. And the comments from the memory post are kind of like attending your own funeral-- before you die. I really do love these.

There you have it, folks. Download your blog and get to work! It's really not THAT hard and it makes the time you spend blogging feel almost worthwhile. If you have any questions, ask away.

I have been working on mine for awhile and have been frustrated with the lack of page options...I am sure if I were smart enough I could figure it out, but it takes so long! Anyway, this post has made me motivated to get to work on finishing it up! Thanks for sharing!

I had the same problem with the "trimming" on my borders. It even took too much off of my cover. But I'm so glad you told us about it last year...it's the only thing I have of our engagement and dating stories. It really is a treasure.

Andrea,

In the top left hand corner of your editing format on Blurb, there is a pull down tab of different page options.. The text pages are for posts that have a lot of words and only a few places for pictures (like the three small pictures on the left side of Aaron's birthday) but if use the Photo page layouts, there is a lot more of mostly photos.. this is where you insert full 8x10 photos (or whatever size your book is.) There is also options for Table of Contents, etc, etc, etc.

In my first book, I found myself frustrated that I couldn't put a title or a little bit of writing on mostly photo pages, and then I decided to make that text or title INTO a photo. On my Christmas highlights pages "Happy Christmas" is a photo, even though it looks like a title.. it was made in 2 seconds on Photoscape and uploaded as a new photo.

I also found the photo collages to be a huge time-saver.. as long as they were saved big enough to use on a whole page (or fit four together.

Hope this helps.. good luck!

Becky, I would love to do an engagement book, someday. I am also looking forward to doing a hardbound book for each of my kids.. I figured out a way to upload ONLY the posts with certain tags. So, eventually I will use only the posts labeled of Ben.. and instead of one year of birthdays, holidays, etc, I will do their first five (or so) years.

this will all happen in the far off future...

Janet, your book is amazing. I have kind of a weird question.. On your previous blog you had a few blogs that you read and one was about a couple that had lost their little girl Lucy. Would you mind posting their blog address.
Thanks.

Janet!
Oh man I am seriously considering making blurb books from now on. I try to keep up with Jake's pictures with just scrap booking, but there is officially not enough time to do it. I need to do this so I can work on it a little here a little there and not make the mess! I went to the blurb website after checking out your amazing book and I'm going to ask Kam if I can go for it. Great job with yours. It looks amazing. What a great thing to keep track of your memories. I love it.

Thank you for your words of encouragement with my moving all the time. I agree. Even though it drives me crazy, I don't know what I'll do when we actually live somewhere for over a year:)

You're great:)

LOVE the summer fun playlist- it's my new favorite! And the book- what an inspiration- do you think I can get one done in a week? :)

It looks so good. One of these days I'm doing one. I will most likely email you for help since I'm pretty clueless when it comes to stuff like this. Hopefully you're not sick of me yet.

This is awesome! So much easier and, I am sure, less time consuming than sitting down to scrapbook everything by hand. Exactly how long did it take you to put the enyire book together before you sent it off to be printed?

That looks awesome! Scrapbooking has now turned electronic. And I dig it.

It took me about 3 weeks to edit. I spent ALL my spare time on the computer. I have no idea how many hours-- maybe a hundred or more? I could have spent a lot more time on it... it's definitely not perfect, but I just wanted it finished. Hope that doesn't intimidate you. It's time consuming and Blurb can be slow.. but I think it's way worth it. I hate those scrapbook messes!

Wow! It looks absolutely amazing! That almost gives me enough motivation to try creating my own book... almost. I'm afraid I can't help being incredibly intimidated. I'm quite a computer idiot... but I think I will at least give it a try soon.

OK... question.. my mother and I just received our first ever blurb book and needed to order a second copy and it doesn't seem to have any options for that after placing the initial order... ever ordered a second copy?

We thought a second order would be a no brainer after putting the book together and ordering initially but we couldn't figure it out.

janet said...

Nova,

You CAN order another book.. instead of going on through your BookSmart file on your computer (where you edit the book) Go to www.blurb.com and LOG IN. There should be a place that says "MY BOOKS" you can click on your title and order a new one without having to upload it again. Does that make sense?
