Your're not heartless...I have been holding back on getting a kitten that my daughter desperately wants for some of the same reasons. But I am slowly realizing that the benefits outweigh the costs of having pets (we have 5 horses, 3 dogs, 10 fish, one crab, and a herd of cattle). There are so many lessons learned (including life and death, responsibility, unconditional love...). NEVER say NEVER!

Glad you found her, and NO, you are not heartless! Hold out as long as you can..I promise you will be happier without a dog now that you have a new baby (and boy number 4)! We had to give our dog, Jo, to another family because I just couldn't handle her anymore. As if cleaning up after a husband and 3 boys wasn't enough...yikes! Dogs are cute, but friends' dogs or neighbors' dogs (or in this case grandparent's dogs) are even cuter!! :)
