friendly competition

This past weekend, Aaron recorded a family Starburst-opening contest. The kids did pretty good-- until Luke [aka: my emotional little girl] got frustrated, spit it out and started crying.
It's classic when Aaron says, "Luke, are you sad?"
And he says "NO" in between sobs..

ps.
I should also mention that Zack is getting a little carried away with his finger guns.
He was turned around during church shooting everyone behind us..
and his sound effects are getting pretty good. oh boy!

YES! The first to comment. Annie and I enjoyed watching this over our pancakes this morning. I totally wanted to cry with Luke and laugh out loud at the same time. I love how Aaron moves on to see how Ben is doing so he doesn't let on that he's laughing at sweet Luke. I also loved the bumble "butt" and how all the boys laugh as I'm sure they laugh at EVERYTHING that Aaron says. What a fun dad. I'm so glad you two are teaching the essentials of opening starbursts with your mouth to your little ones. Great fam activity.

Oooohhh...that was SO sweet. I wanted to just reach through the computer and give Luke a big hug, which would probably make him cry harder since he's never met me. I just thought it was so cute that he seemed like he was trying SO hard not to cry. Great video, it made me smile. You have such a cute family.

Evan watched the video with me. I had to keep rewinding it just so he could hear Uncle Aaron say Bumble"butt". That is sooooooooo funny!

You are a FREAKING MANIAC! I cannot believe you opened those starbursts so fast! No wonder Luke was crying when he's competing with YOU. Send him to my house and he will be the reigning champ.

and I love Zack's little voice in the background. "I want open it, Mom." SOOO cute!

ps. you are not only photogenic but videogenic too. Seriously! Those eyelashes!

No kidding about opening those Startbursts. You are amazing. I watched the video, and Rebecca came in and asked me to "do it again." She loved it too. What a tender guy. He will make a great husband someday.

So what's the secret? How DO you open a starburst in your mouth so fast - or at all? Because after I saw your original starburst opening video, I tried it and did just about as good as Luke (spitting it out in frustration after it was slimy and mutilated - sorry maybe too much detail). I think Luke is a doll. I also have an emotional little boy - but his crying is LOUD and lasts a long time. At least Luke was trying to be a man about it. You guys have a cute family.

You go champ! I used to be able to tie cherry stems with my tounge, not sure if I still can. All three of your boys are adorable. You have such a cute family!

That was GREAT! Loved every minute of it. I can't believe you made your boys compete with you. Poor Luke. He's so sweet. And you are a freak of nature! That is seriously not normal. Good for you! You look HOT too. I've always wanted your eyelashes and love your boys and Aaron videotaping. Again, that was great!

There is a trick.. it doesn't really seem to help other people.. but I am not one to keep secrets.

I take the starburst and slightly bite it, popping the flaps open.. then I just open the flaps with my tongue and Viola. Really, it's not rocket science, but then again, I might be super talented. When you've got it, you've got it. What else can I say?

Sometime when I am in Vegas we could race the starbursts, I'm not too bad, I'd have to brush up on my skills though. Your family are adorable. Zack's little voice kills me!

Okay - Thanks for the tip. Next time I have starbursts around (which isn't often since I don't really like them!) I'm going to try again. Wish me luck!

There's nothing worse than being the son of a mom who arrogantly thinks she's the worlds best starburst-in-the-mouth-unwrapper.
