Inflation

No.. I am not going to discuss gas prices because that's... well- depressing. I am just staying in my house and never driving anywhere. who needs friends when you have a blog, anyway?

My concern today is toothfairy prices. How much is she forking out these days? Ben lost tooth #5 over the weekend and I almost forgot for the second night in the row to collect the itty-bitty tooth from under his pillow. Last night at 3 am, I sprang up from bed, found a few quarters from my husband's night stand, and made my way into his bedroom. I searched for a good 5 minutes for that microscopic tooth and couldn't find it. So I left the quarters under his pillow and went back to sleep feeling somewhat satisfied.

Ben woke up this morning excited about his quarters, but even more excited that she didn't take the tooth.. because maybe there was a chance it could get paid double for it. I don't think so buddy! When I asked him why he thought she didn't take the tooth he replied, "maybe it was dirty because I forgot to brush it last night since it wasn't in my mouth." Bingo. That is exactly why she didn't take it. He then stated that he's going to have to lose 9 more teeth in order to buy his next Transformer toy... as if a dollar wasn't enough for his little tooth. Is our toothfairy stingy or what? I thought a dollar was pretty generous... especially considering that I only got a nickel for mine (or maybe this is coming from my memory that walked uphill both ways to school.. in the snow.)

My question is-- what is the going rate for a tooth these days? Do you pay more for molars or teeth without cavities or teeth that were more traumatic to pull out than others? Do you leave special notes or fairy dust? And do you leave teeth behind because they weren't brushed the night before? Because I know someone who does.

And please don't tell me that you keep them all in a special place... like in a scrapbook or hope chest. Because then I would feel unsentimental and unmotherly for chucking mine as soon as I get the chance.

the tooth fairy hasn't visited our house yet, but i would think that a loonie or toonie would be plenty. we have one dollar and two dollar coins in canada. maybe you should give them a toonie... our dollar is worth the same now, and it even has a picture of a polar bear on it... so canadian, i know. anyways, just a thought. don't think you can spend canadian down there anyway, unless things have changed. it's funny, because you can use american money anywhere up here. and as for gas, count yourself lucky. we are paying around 5.00 a gallon. it costs over 80.00 to fill up my car. and the sad thing it we have enough oil up here to supply north america for the next century... guess the government is in it for the money.

I love this post since I just had this conversation the other day. Nice to get another opinion on the subject. I'm in complete $1 per tooth agreement. I've kept both of McKenna's teeth tucked away in my jewelry box, since that's what my mom always did. (Which is, by-the-way, how I discovered the whole tooth fairy hoax...by finding my teeth in her jewelry box.) I was informed by a friend that it was gross to keep the teeth and I was awakened to the fact that she's right and have therefore chucked them and will continue to do so. I think I'm finally getting over the "have to save everything" phase.

Val-- you're totally right about the Santa thing. I think the fact that he actually sees him makes it less believable.. which is ironic. He just didn't get why so many looked different from each other. So, yea. I kind of wish he didn't believe in the tooth fairy because it's kind of annoying (remembering to do it) and isn't really that fun. He also didn't say BOO about the Easter bunny either. Why is that that he would believe in a flying fairy and a big bunny and not an actual man is beyond me. Kids.

I would say $1 is just fine. I think we got a quarter growing up. Brinley is more obsessed with coins than dollars.
As for saving them...EWWW!

How sentimental can you be about a tooth anyways? I suppose the only good reason I would take on the subject of keeping the teeth would be to have DNA samples like they tell you to for each of your kids, but then again you would only need 1, not the entire collection...gross.

The inflation prices are high for teeth these days, I have been hearing rumors of 5's blowing around-that's way too much. Scott thinks I'm crazy for the dollar price (that's what I got)...aparently his tooth fairy was cheap...(is that not nice?)

Can't help ya. Macy doesn't believe, never really has. We just giver her a "special surprise" instead of money. Usually just some stickers or something. That way I can be as cheap as I want. I am sure we will do the same for the other kids, since Mace pretty much spilled the beans.

I have one that believes in the tooth fairy, but not in Santa or the Bunny. I think a flying person with wings could be something I don't know. I chuck the teeth too.

That's funny. Don't worry that Griffin was 9 when we got him, still had baby teeth and still believed! In fact, he found out because I could NEVER remember to give him money and take his tooth and one time he wrote a note to the tooth fairy that I didn't throw away and he found it. But how old is too old? $1 is plenty. Oh the questions of parenting.

Okay, this post made me chucke. I love your thought process. I got $1 for my teeth. Of course, that was how many years ago???
My mom saved all my teeth and gave them to me a few years ago. I was so disgusted and couldn't find the trash can fast enough. I think your kids will thank you.
