Gotta love Mother's Day. Some people think it's a commercialized holiday... something that Hallmark created so that people would buy mushy cards and overpriced flowers. But I love everything about it. Maybe it's because for the past 7 years I have been dealing with weight gain, maternity clothes and postpartum emotions. I've been changing diapers, waking up in the middle of the night, wiping dirty faces, cutting up sandwiches in silly shapes, repainting walls to cover marker masterpieces, crawling on my hands and knees, reading stories, washing stains out of the carpet, scrubbing the toilet- and the walls behind the toilet- and anything else within 5 feet of the toilet... This is MY day to relish in all my hard work and feel happy about life. And that's exactly what I did today. Because- GOSH DARNIT- I deserve it!!♥ Homemade pipe cleaner hearts hung all over my house (courtesy of Ben and Luke)
♥ My new camera!
♥ Lots of hugs and kisses from my boys-- including my husband!
♥ Getting a nice card and apron from my in-laws
♥ Ben and Luke hiding behind the couch and screaming Happy Mother's Day when I came down the stairs!
♥ Zack not knowing what all the excitement was about (but still wanting to be like his brothers) saying, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Quack, Quack!" *while making his two hands into little quacking ducks* How can I NOT love this child?
♥ Hearing the musical numbers in Sacrament meeting.
♥ Taking a nap after church.
♥ The beautiful pink roses that my sister gave me!
♥ Talking on the phone to my dear friend, Bev Olson. She is a widow who lives in Spokane.. who has buried her husband and all three of her children. She is such a strong woman and such a great example to me.
♥ Having time to blog without anyone murmur-ing!!
♥ Homemade cards by all three of my boys.
♥ The hilarious Mother's Day book we made for our primary class. We had fill in the blank questions about their moms and they turned out so cute. My favorite answers were:
I love my mom because..... she always kisses me and hugs me after she hits me.
My mom is prettiest when.... she wears clothes.
My is the happiest when.... when we leave her alone and she is all by herself...
My mom's favorite thing to do is... go grocery shopping
If my mom could go anywhere it would be.... Hawaii or Idaho
**This book was inspired from one we received a couple of years ago in Spokane. In Primary, Ben (age 4) answered the question-- My mother is special because... she has a nice body. For WEEKS we had people in the ward looking me up and down and saying, "NICE body, Janet!"
♥ Having a quiet house.. (that doesn't mean we don't miss you, Deb and girls!)
♥ Getting a foot message from Ben and Luke. It was more lotion application that anything, but they had a contest to see who could do a better job... the winner got a candy bar. That's right-- I am training my boys well.
♥ Reading a feel good book while everyone else slaved away.
♥ Not cooking a single meal or doing a single dish.. thanks Aaron. You are the best!
♥ Eating chocolate cream pie for dessert!
♥ Having a picture taken of me and the boys without any complaints from the photographer... but I only got ONE... so glad it was a good one!
This past year, I have felt frustrated about not being able to get/stay pregnant, but recently I have had a change of heart. I realized how silly it is for me to focus on what I DON'T have. I am so blessed and I don't want to spend another minute thinking about what I wish was different. I have three healthy boys and a wonderful husband.. I am so grateful to have them in my life and count myself as a lucky woman.Happy Mother's Day!
I hope yours was the best one EVER!

You are a great writer. You capture what so many of us are thining but can't seem to say. Also, I love the post about your mom. That was very touching! There is so much to do as a mom, but today, I think I'll take a moment to write at least something down for my kids. Thanks for the inspiration...once again!

I also loved the musical numbers in sacrament meeting. And the comments from your primary kids are stinkin' hilarious. I would love to know who said what. That conversation between your boys is so sweet. I'm glad you got to hear it.
foot massage= brilliant...aparently I need to learn more from you!
i hope my Preslie girl marries a boy who's mom taught him to give foot rubs. :) I enjoyed your mother's day a lot and your darling memory of your sweet boys. man, they have a way of making your heart jump right out of your body. And snaps to Aaron for doing the cooking and clean-up. yes, everything about mother's day rocks.
