Ben and Luke came to vote with me and I am so glad they did. We've been talking about the election for weeks now and it was only natural they were a part of the voting experience. When we got to the voting booth, Ben wanted to know why it cost money to vote. I told him it was FREE and not only was it a right, but it was a privelage. Then he asked why I had to put my credit card in the machine... The lady next to me laughed while I explained that it was an electric voting card, not a credit card. "Of course," was his response. They read over each of the names with me.. I hadn't heard of half of the local candidates, but I made sure to vote for Benjamin Something-or-other because Ben thought that would be cool to elect someone with his name. Luke was disappointed he couldn't find a LUKE on the ballot. Maybe in the future, kid. On our way out the door, the boys winked at the lady giving out stickers and scored one of their own. Charisma can go a long way, says I.We took a few pictures in the car with our stickers. I wanted one normal one, and I think I got it..
or not.

We came home and threw a little election party with our friends, the Simpsons. Each of the kids had ballots----
After we voted, we tallied the scores. John McCain won at our house, but only by a hair (4-3, and one of those votes for Obama was from Warner who thought he was voting for THE ROCK.) It looks like the only election John McCain will win is the one in the this household. (And ordering pizza was a landslide, if you were wondering.)
And lastly, I uploaded a 2 minute clip of what these kids think about the election.... and it seems to make more sense than Fox news or CNN.

not this cute anymore!

I'm mad at our polling places, we don't get stickers anymore. Really, that's all I go for.
One of the most postive things to come from this election was that our children, ages 15, 14 and 5 took an active part in the electoral process. After hours of debate and research they all chose McCain. There is hope for our future!
p.s. did you see Prop. 8 is passing as of right now! Family first!
I voted for the loser too. Your kids are so creative. They come up with the best ideas.
me too, so sad, no party here tonight! =) good post though. how did you do your collage at the top so long? i looked for something like it on the websites you gave me, but they are only square, i want a long one like yours. share your secrets.
I took my kids to vote with me too, but Kaid and Cam just kept trying to eat eachother's hands, hmm, a little different experience!
You are such a cute mom! I love that you had an election at home. You have very lucky kids to have a mother that teaches so well!!
Great posts Janet! I love that you took your kids to vote. We did the mail in, but we've been talking to our kids a lot about the process and how a President is elected. We all voted for John McCain, too. I wasn't surprised that he lost. He fought a good fight and I am sure he wll keep fighting in the senate.
Obama has a cute family. I'd never seen his daughters before. They've got some fun years ahead of them in the White House. I know I said some mean things about Obama, before I knew much about him. I am sure he is a good man and I hope he will help our country get out of this economic crisis that we are in.
Mike was disappointed that he won, but we explained to him that he's our president and we need to support and pray for him. Mike liked that idea and he went straight to bed to say his prayers.
Kids really are smart and want to be informed about grown-up things. I am enjoying the little teaching moments.
:) Tiff
janet... i think you could throw a fun party even it is were the end of the world! your halloween pics are adorable... it's nice that your husband agreed to dress up. i couldn't get mine to even wear a hockey jersey... so i dressed up as his shadow and followed him around all night. it drove him crazy, but that was the point...
brandy :)
For some reason I can't leave a comment on your newest post- you are too clever!! I support Barack, but I sure wish there weren't so many unknown factors about his life. I PRAY he can lead us through this crisis.
Yes ,yes ,yes and yes I very much agree with you. The most wonderful thing about America is that we are free to choose. The majority rules and that is ok with me. We also have the freedom to continue to disagree and try and fight for the way we want this great country to be, even as we try to work together. I was inspired by the voter turn out. I love this country!
Thanks for the post. I'm okay with the results too. I bet Obama is really feeling the gravity of it all now. I hope he leads as well as he speaks. He gave a great one last night.
ALSO - while you are sharing blogging secrets, could you please tell me how you get your posts all the way over to the left hand side of the computer screen? I just entered the blog world and it bugs me that I only have a narrow column down the middle to work with. (I'm not really into all the fancy blog designs that people have bordering the two sides). Thanks for your help Janet. I agree 100% with your post talking about Obama winning.
Can you give me half of your creativity and energy? Seriously! You are always doing something fun with your kids! What a cute mom!
I really liked your post on Pres. elect Obama. I completely agree with what you said.
I also LOVE your Halloween costumes. They are great! I have always wanted to dress up as princess Leia! you played it well!
Hey, could you direct me to how you have the link to let people still contact you after you have gone private?
My kids voted too. Their school held student body elections on Nov. 4th, cute! I agree with Tiff about his girls, the Obama family will be a wonderful example for our society--did you love that in his speech on election night he told his girls they could have a puppy?!? And soon enough the drumming will cease from the McCain campaign, incessantly and unnecessarily worrying Americans about Obama's credibility. He is an intelligent person who will govern sensibly. Obama no ka oi!(Hawaiians rule!)
An ELECTION PARTY?! What a FUN idea! Way to get your kids involved Janet! I love that about you. I wouldn't be suprised if one of your little guys ran for president someday - and if he did I would definetly vote for him!
Again, showing your true mom colors. You are so good about keeping your kids informed and having a good time!
