TWO days of crazy.. and more to come..

In the past 48 hours, I have:
  • been visit taught
  • gone visiting teaching
  • made dinner for a neighbor who is very sick
  • gone on a temple trip with the youth (left at 5 pm returned at 10:30 pm)
  • sold a few appliances for a friend who has recently moved
  • participated in my cleaning group.. still love this.. and can't wait for it to be my turn next week!
  • visited the dentist.. (and must elaborate later)
  • attended a birthday party for a cute 3 year old
  • ran several errands with all three kids in tow-- they hate me!
  • ruined a load of laundry.. so sad.
  • hung shelves in my kitchen
  • went to YW.. with three new investigating girls-- and a few old favorites :) (again.. I have GOT to sit down and write about the incredible missionary work going on with the young women in our ward.)
  • realized the activity was BORING so we ditched--
  • came back to my house for banana splits. Surprised my husband when I brought back a houseful of girls.
  • sent about 200 emails.. or so it seems.
  • took a nice long shower somewhere in the middle of all this mess!
  • blasted the new David Archuleta CD in my house and my car. I love #11.. the rest is still growing on me.
  • said goodbye to the Chaos who are leaving us!! We will miss you!
  • took apart a big playhouse and reassembled it in our toy room.
  • dropped off my kids to several different houses to be babysat. Thank you everyone!

Things I have NOT done:
  • gotten over my cold
  • played with my kids
  • watched a minute of TV
  • called my mom who probably wonders if I am alive.
  • made my husband a lunch for work
  • read anyone's blog
  • cleaned my house
  • prayed, read scriptures or done anything that requires quietness.
  • gotten ready for Thanksgiving.. there is so much to do and so little time!

A conversation held somewhere in the middle of this that I don't want to forget:

Zack brought me a granola bar and asked me to open it. I saw that it was the crunchy kind... a kind he never actually eats.

Me: You can't have this.. you won't eat it.
Him: I will break it and throw it to the dog and he will eat it.
Me: We don't have a dog, Zack.
Him: OH! (laughing)

and last but not least... let me address a sad matter of business, since it's been the commanding subject in my email box. Blurb (the company that I printed my blog book with) is no longer converting blogs into books. You can manually copy and paste your blog, but it's not doing it for you.. the older software will still do it. So, don't upgrade if you haven't already. My computer hasn't been updated and will still transfer any blog over. I tried it last night and it worked fine, but that may be because I have already printed a book with them.

I have no idea why they changed their software.. probably because blogging has gotten out of hand and they print the books cheap. Does anyone know of another blog printing company that doesn't charge an arm or a leg to print a book? I don't have any answers, but would love to hear from some of you.

Lulu.com will publish books at a reasonable price. The problem with them is they don't have the slurp function that blurb has. You put everything into a document and print it to PDF and then submit your PDF file. A little more work, but you have the capability to make your pages look like you want them to, because once you have the PDF file your book will not be changed-even through the transfer from you to them. (I personally like this, but it's not for everyone. It will take more work.)

Steph.. changing each post to a PDF file is very time consuming. If that's the only way to print a book, it's probably worth it, but there has to be more options out there.

Seriously, anyone want to start a blog printing company? I wish I knew how....

and for those of you who emailed me separately (thank you) but a lot of people would benefit from your comments too. When I learn more, I will have to do another post... as if I have the time! Gotta love the Holiday season!

Confession: I first found your blog after you did the post about your own blog book. That is what finally convinced me to start a blog of my own. I'm sad about the slurp function not working for blogger...teaches me to procrastinate. Thanks for sharing the bad news...seriously...better to find out now than later.

Oh darn it! So a week ago I thought, I need to get going on my book and I could not figure out how to transfer my blog, after talking to a friend of my SIL I realized why I couldn't figure it out they only offer it for typepad. That stinks! Let's start a blog printing buisness...let's do it!

I think you should start a blog book company, in between drying off from your shower and serving 100 different people in a million ways. I would buy AT LEAST one from you. :)

Printing off your e-mails is such a good idea. Tim and I were just talking about all our e-mail s from when we dated and how sad we would be if they got erased. (by the way, can they be erased?) Anyhow, you are (as always) full of so many great ideas.

I'm not talking about printing each post to PDF...you have to compile your posts into a word document and then once your book is finalized you print to pdf and send it to them. It's not as easy as the slurp function, but I think it allows you more freedom to make your book how you want your book to look, instead of pre-formatted layouts. I hate thinking and working inside the box!

Unfortunately, I had not previously downloaded the software from Blurb so could only upload the recent version : ) On the Blurb site there was a thread about this and here are a couple
of the ideas:

Blog2Print
I just tried and downloaded my whole year, which is not huge (a little over 200 entries), and it would be $68.85 for a hard bound. That is before I play with page-breaks (it is not "pretty" right now), so might be even more pages.

I'm tried www.scrapbookblogger.com right now. Uses background paper that looks like you scrapped it. But right off seems a bit pricey too. I downloaded my stuff and then they only put 1 entry per page and they have a 150 page limit so I'm over that.

Someone else also suggested going to:
http://linuxlore.blogspot.com/2007/09/livejournal-to-blogger-or-blogger-to.html If you go there, they suggest a way to convert your files and then still use Blurb ultimately. When looking at the pricing, seems that would be the cheapest way to go.

I'm going to try Stephanie's idea too to see which is the best out of these 4 ideas.

I'll let you know what I find out as my mom put on her Christmas wish-list "a copy of your blog in a book". Need to keep it reasonable in price ($68 per is steep), look good and not a ton of work to make it that way...

I was so BUMMED to find out that blurb was not compatible with blogger. I've been thinking of easy options, but the best I can come up with is to copy and past into blurb. It will be time consuming, but I know the quality of the book will be good!

This doesn't help right now... but Someone emailed me a link to a site called LDS Journal.com. Although you may have heard of it already. I had a quick nosey and it's like another blogsite - more private I think, and they do print books for you. Dunno how much it costs though...

This is an update. I tried the http://linuxlore.blogspot.com/2007/09/livejournal-to-blogger-or-blogger-to.html If you go there, they suggest a way to convert your files to Word Press or Live Journal. I did that - that part was very slick. The person that wrote that program deserves an award. HOWEVER, when I tried to slurp it into Blurb, it would only slurp Dec to August. Nothing more. I re-loaded the Blurb software and still got same issue. I am at this point a bit on the frustrated side as it was seeming to be quite promising. Has anyone found anything else out there??
