baby steps

i realize that asking you to make a list of ten things you love about yourself is too demanding. and I hate when I sound demanding (even if I am just pretending). i figured if i can give such an assignment to my 7 and 9 year old sons, then many of you could do it too. but not everyone loves their freckles or their own butt like my boys do.

So, I am going to downsize the assignment and ask you to think of ONE thing you like about yourself. what is your favorite thing about yourself today? You can comment about it or email me about it or write about it on your blog. But you don't even have to do that. Just think about it. and I will take the Mr. Linky down until next Tuesday when I will ask you about the children's book you read most often. Don't you want to know about other's favorite children's books? I do. Anyway, that will be my assignment next week.

Don't have a cow. (why did that phrase ever go out of style? I am determined to bring it back in.)

I like my laugh. I can get even the toughest critics laughing.

Wait, I just haven't had time yet! I was thinking about 27 things I like about myself (it's my birthday today). :) But to start--

I like my hair.
I like my parenting style.
I like my strength.
I like that I don't feel like things have to be perfect to be ok.
I like that I'm comfortable around people, whether there are a lot of just a few.

I think this is a great idea, and people need to not be so hard on themselves. I don't think I'm the most amazing mom ever (by any means!) or the best wife, or even the best person, but I am who I am, and I like it. Thanks for this.

Aww... and here I was, pondering all night on what 10 things I would right about myself. And sadly, yes, it really did take me hours to come up with 10 things. Why is this?? I loved yours though and I think it's fantastic. If there's anything that a lot of women (especially mothers) need today, it's more self-confidence.

I still might post the 10 things on my blog, but I'm trying to decide if it seems self-absorbed to go almost 2 months without blogging, and then come back with a post that goes on and on about how much I love myself! But for now, here's one thing (the easiest one for me to come up with).

I love that I forgive easily. Someone might do me a great harm, but the second they show the slightest hint at being sorry they did it, it's water under the bridge for me. Even if they never seem sorry about it, just give me a few days and I'll make my peace. Grudges aren't my style.

Thanks for bringing it all up Janet. I'll admit that I've been feeling a little better about myself today.

What if I WANT a cow? What if I wish to name her Molly, and what if I want to drink her raw unpasteurized milk? What then?

I love that I can take on anything. I don't always carry my burdens with grace, but I carry them.

I am sorry I had a cow and emailed you. it's just super hard for me to list things I like about myself. It doesn't come as easily for some of us. But I can definitely do one.

I am an excellent seamstress.

I know how to pick great friends. I can shower and look good in 20 minutes. I am not quick to judge others.

Love this, Janet! You always know how to get my wheels turning. Doing ten would be hard for me, but I find it interesting because one of my favorite things about myself is that I don't judge others. I found myself asking all day yesterday- why don't I give myself the same treatment I so willingly give others?

I haven't posted my 10 things yet, but I love that you put it out there, it has had me thinking about what I love about me since I read it yesterday. You are an inspiration! Love you!

I love that I am good at math. This talent has really come in handy for me more than I thought it would in the past few years.

Jessie-- happy birthday!

Sheri-- yes, your readers want to hear what you love about yourself, even if it's been months since you've posted.

Beth-- you can get a cow or buy a cow, but please don't have one.

i'm excited about the children's book question. i've been wanting to do that for about a month and i've been keeping tabs on our fave ones. i'm sure in the next decade i'll get around to posting that on my bliggity.

I love life. I love learning about anything. I am brilliant. I'm pretty. I'm pure and loving. I'm an overachiever. I read more than I anyone I know. I take a genuine interest in people. I'm HUMBLE. Just erase the last one, or even all of them. I'm just glad I love myself. You are awesome, Janet. I love your blog.

I love that I played volleyball last night with my company's management and sales teams and that I was probably the "most senior" (in age) in the group. Not as good as I once was, but I've still got it!

i love that i can like pretty much anyone and i love to talk to people.

also i love that you are bringing phrases back in style. didn't you say "fine" the other night? so fun!

janet said...

Yup, I said that Peeta was FINE!

and Jenna-- I like that you think Cat Woman says "Roar" instead of Meow.
