my favorite treat

Thanks to my friend Rachel for the recipe
and my MIL Brandy for my new smoothy maker, I've enjoyed this

delicious smoothie

every day this year. It is seriously better than dessert.. and so much healthier.

I don't really follow a strict recipe, but this is what I usually do..

Orange Juice--8 to 10 ounces

Spinach-- fresh is great, but frozen is almost just as good

a handful of berries-- (my fav are blueberries, but I have tried a mixed variety as well as just strawberries.)

1 banana-- or more if you like. I freeze mine the night before!

Ice

Blend well and ENJOY! Honestly, this is just as yummy as Jamba Juice. I am now having to double or triple the recipe everyday because my kids are begging for mine. It is delish and super easy.

** I have substituded the berries for a ripe mango and LOVED it... but I don't usually have mangoes on hand. Oh- and if you've never tried Kale it's great too.. use it instead of the Spinach for an even healthier drink!

Do you have to have a fancy-pants blender to make this drink? I just have a regular old one, but I want to try it. BTW, LOVE your blog. Your kids crack me up. I don't even think my almost-4-year-old knows that there is a whole category of animals that live underground.

I am sure a regular old blender will do, as long as it chops up ice--

No way do you have the same song as me at the top of your list!? I must be cooler than I thought I was. :) Love this song. I am sure I will love this drink too! and by the way I just read twilight and searched your blog to find the post you made about it a while ago but couldn't find it anywhere, so I am assuming it's deleted...I was really wanting to hear your opinion again because I seem to not be with everyone else on this one. So...please feel free to remind me on my blog. You rock janet!

Fruit smoothies are my absolute favorite treat right now. Jason makes the best ones. I beg him every night to make one. Except his isn't quite as healthy because he adds a little ice cream. So good... I don't care if it's cold outside. I'm always up for a fruit smoothie!

I was going to do a post about smoothies because I want to know what things I can add to mine to make them even healtier. Like flaxseed or something like that? Have you ever done that? I saw this recipe on Rachaels blog, they look delish. Love the photo of it. What kinda of fancy smoothy maker did your MIL give you? That's a fun gift.

That's funny because I've gotten into the same thing lately but without the spinach...I'll have to try that. I add milk for some protein...I got the idea on "Zonya's Health Bites".
Anyway...about that book you commented on - you should seriously read it. It's eye-opening and you have no excuses not to...what with your 3 boys and all. I'm sure you've already read plenty of books on boys. Are they a species of their own or what!

I do a very similar smoothie. The changes are no berries, pineapple juice instead of oj, some yogurt (I use plain). It's a green smoothie, great for St. Patrick's day or anytime your kids want a fun-colored drink. You can't taste the spinach and kids love it every time! Even if they saw you put the spinach in. Thanks for giving me another version to try!
