My kids and I go to the pet store often. It's fun, free and somehow makes me feel a little less guilty for not actually having a pet in my home. Sometimes I tell myself that someday we can get a puppy, but then I walk into the pet store and realize that I don't want my home smelling like animals. Anyway, today's trip to the store was rather uneventful until I noticed Luke dancing around. If Luke starts dancing, that means he REALLY has to go to the bathroom. He doesn't actually tell me this until he's about to cry. This kid seriously goes pee twice a day, and when he finally does, he pees for at least 5 minutes. He must have a huge bladder. Anyway, this is not what I wanted to post about... I've gotten sidetracked. Luke and Ben were in the men's bathroom (because they have boycotted the women's and will no longer come in with me...) To quote Luke from a few months ago... "MOM! I am not a WOMEN!"
While standing outside the bathroom with Zack (which seemed like forever) I was forced to look at the cat food. MY-OH-MY!! I cannot BELIEVE how many varieties of food there are for cats! Seriously.. different categories for every possible condition you can think of!! Let me list a few off the top of my head....
♦ Weight Loss ♦ Hairball control ♦ Oral Management ♦ Arthritis Care ♦ Sensitive Skin ♦ High Energy ♦ sensitive stomach ♦ extreme shedding care ♦ Allergies ♦ dull or dry fur.... and this isn't including the different flavors!! I was surprised there wasn't special food for cross-eyed cats or restless leg syndrome.
I am probably very unaware of how complicated it is to feed an animal, but I grew up with a cat, and we poured some milk in a bowl and gave him leftover dinner scraps. I can barely take care of my own kid's oral care and energy levels.. why would I want to add to the chaos? This just confirms my personal belief that we are not ready for a pet yet...

I'm glad I'm not the only mom depriving my children of the world of pets! I think it's just one more 'person' to look after!
I completely agree!!!!
I think that visiting the pet store is the perfect way to enjoy a pet. Or find a friend with one. I just think they are much better to visit. I'm talking about dogs or birds or cats or rabbits...I'll spring for a lizard or snake when our kids are older, though, if Ty will let me!
*Sigh* Thank you for making me feel a little less guilty about our family not having pets, I KNOW we are not even close to being ready to have puppy. I feel bad, because kids really do love animals, but I am not ready for 'one more' mess around the house! We like going to the pet store too!
All I have to say on the matter is DO NOT DO IT! Having a puppy for 6 weeks seriously gave me brain damage.
i have always been of the opinion: if I'm going to have to clean up someone's poop and pee, feed them and clean up their messes, I'd rather it be a baby! Say no to pets!
Pets are a lot of work but you've got to admit that I have one sweet dog. (most of the time)
I couldn't have put it better myself Janet. I don't think we will ever be pet owners. Especially because Danny is allergic to pet hair. *wipe a fake tear away*
this is freaking hilareous! we are not cat fans in our house. i think we might hate them. this sounds like some skit you'd see on saturday night live!! (you probably are wondering why some lurching-stranger is posting on here. i'm arahs sister)
Good for you, Janet! You will remember our dog, Jo...well, she is no longer our dog! (Yeah!) I finally got sick of feeding, cleaning up after, chasing, etc., and since no one else was willing to do it, I gave her away. Of course the boys cried and I felt absolutely horrible (I almost cried too, actually). But now, it is such a RELIEF not to have to take care of a dog. I mean, three boys is bad enough! We already deal with food and poop and dirt--I just don't need any more! Let me just say, stick to your guns, because once you give in, it is really hard to get rid of the pet! Plus, Ethan asked me just the other day (Jo has been gone for like 6 months), "Mom, why did you give away our dog?" Talk about a guilt trip!
