I've realized that if the picture has a story behind it, the explanation should be written ON the work of art. This can be done in any photo software program (including Photoscape, just make the document large enough.) It's made adding their artwork to my blog BOOK super easy. (BTW, my 2008 book is finished... 400+ pages!) Updates on that later. Until then, here's a few masterpieces from my chillins.

not this cute anymore!

there is nothing better than kid art. I have a collection of Brinley's. Scanning it is a great idea. I just need to go through the pile. I also think it's awesome that you journal on it too. very smart.
i've been telling ali she needs to do this with brin's school stuff. i'm not going to handle paper stuff/junk very well..ugh. but you've done a great thing with it.
love the idea of putting text on it.
Ok, so freaking cute. I think he could sell the Ho Ho Hope one. I am supposed to review an art exhibit for my art class. I wonder if this counts.
such creative kids you have! mine tend to color on surfaces other than paper...tables, floors, clothes (thank goodness not the walls yet!) - so I'm not able to scan many of those artpieces into the computer!
Oh, and I love that you caption each one on the picture itself. Great idea.
Me too! It is SO much better than piles and piles and piles of everything they come home with from preschool. Scan, garbage, smile.
Someday I will have a scanner, sigh, because I will totally do this too. Instead, I cut up and pasted all my kids art work into a home-made calender I took and bound at Kinkos. I wanted to order a calender through APPLE because they are awesome, but too pricey. . . maybe I'll post pics of my cute, homey calender.
Thank goodness for scanners. Bye Bye paper clutter. My kids are ALWAYS making paper projects. That is all they do. Especially preslie. Her barbies and dolls are collecting dust.
Love the artwork!
Your boys are quite the little artists. Impressive.
I love the Transformer spelling words. Are you going to do a Star Wars spelling test next! Hey seriously, if it makes them excited to learn how to spell words (even if they are pointless) then why not!?
I totally do this with all our art and school stuff---or else I would go crazy with paperwork...Also, I've learned that if you're having a hard time throwing it away (something super special) we send it to Grandma and Grandpa so they can see it! (Nothin' like sending my crap to the in laws once in awhile!!! :) ok seriously though they love seeing it just as much as the kids like to bring it home. It kills two birds with one stone!)
What a great idea to scan artwork! I just have a rubbermaid box for each child and now only keep the best of the best- I've gotten better now and have gotten the kids each their own notebook (spiral) and they have that as their art book- they work out to be about 10 cents each when you get them with back to school savings...
So cute! I love the TMNJ, I have that song in my head now!
YAY Janet for figuring out how to help me use blurb for my book. I can't find your e-mail for some lame reason, so if you can shoot me an e-mail (andrea underscore paxman at hotmail dot com) I would LOVE to hear all about it!
P.S. LOVE how you've saved this art work!

The picture of the Trader/ Peterson family is priceless- it's so accurate!
This is a fab idead! These pictures are hilarious and will be so precious as they get older. I'm gonna have to copy! We've got pictures pouring in from pre-school every day now!!
i love this idea, especially with the text on them. that way they won't just be random pictures some day.
I keep all my kids stuff in a rubbermaid tote. I have a hard time parting with their art.My mom kept all of my stuff and it's been really fun to show the kids what I did as a kid.
Love the pictures. How did you get the text on them? Very cute post:)
Had to find this for you on my friend's blog....
