I knew something was up when I saw Luke empty his piggy bank. A minute later, Zack asked what job he could do to earn 10 cents. I had him put away ten piles of folded clothes. He was thrilled about his dime and ran downstairs. A bit later, he needed a quarter. I handed it over just because his face was so cute. And because I ripped him off earlier with the penny per pile of clothes.
I came down about an hour later to a dark room. I found two kids asleep on the couch and another with a bowl full of popcorn and a pocket full of change. These were the signs taped to the front of two couch cushions...

Apparently, Ben had cleaned the "movie theater" while they were collecting their money, so he thought it was a good idea to charge them 3 cents for every toy they brought into the room. I also made him vacuum up the popcorn after the movie-- because when you own a theater, sometimes you have to do the dirty work.

not this cute anymore!

that is the cutest thing ever! How did you get such stinkin smart kids?? They are adorable!!
Hahaha CUTE! Your blog makes me so happy! :)
your boys are amazing... i have seriosly contemplated home schooling my girls because of the amazing children that i've noticed coming from home schooling homes. all the kids i've seen are best friends, so courteous towards others and more mature. do you think homeschooling has made your boys better friends? i am so worried that i would just get stressed out and my kids would end up hating being at home... i think it takes a special woman...
There's no doubt in my mind that homeschooling has a lot to do with the fact that my boys are so close. They literally are each other's best friends.
After talking about putting them in public school a few month ago, both older boys were emotional (not because they didn't want to go to school) but because they wouldn't see each other all day, everyday.
Homeschooling is most definitely stressful and exhausting.. but so is motherhood. If someone asked you if you would recommend being a mom, what would you say? I doubt you would list the fact that you never get any sleep, you have to clean up messes constantly, or you never get time for yourself. I feel the same about homeschooling. It's a lot of work, but the benefits are SO worth the sacrifices.
With that said, it's not for every mom or every child. Check out a few books on homeschooling at the library and see how you feel after you read them.. It's definitely worth a little research.
Janet, I homeschool my boys until middle school. I now have 3 in public school and 2 at home. From my experience, I would say that while homeschool takes a lot of time and energy, in many ways it is LESS exhausting than public school!
I NEVER had to stay up until 1 am helping a kid finish a project (it was not due to procrastination so much as schedule overload!).
I spend so much time in the car shuttling kids to and from band, cross country, play/musical, and other after-school events that I feel like I live in the car. (Which makes me long for the days when I would complain that the only time I left the house was to check the mailbox.)
I could sleep in whenever I needed to. Now I have to get up on time and get boys moving, which is HARD!
In homeschool, I never had to ask a teacher to substitute a different book for a completely inappropriate one or request that a son not watch a PG13 movie that I myself wouldn't watch!
Nobody ever had to do redundant problem after problem for math. My oldest who is a sophomore generally has a minimum of an hour's worth of math homework each night. One night my husband did Ben's homework too, and it took him an hour as well, and he's a computer programmer!
Nobody ever forgot to turn in assignments.
Nobody ever had to have papers and detention slips signed. Nobody was ever tardy for lunch (I had a son serve a detention for being tardy for lunch...). And I could go on and on...
But I'll stop and just say that I loved having my boys at home. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
Ha! I just realized you might not know who Momof5boys is! I'm Karina Worlton. :)
