So, I am on bedrest for the next couple of weeks. I've had to cancel everything on the schedule. No Halloween parties, book club, field trips, baby shower, co-ops, etc. And I am perfectly okay with that. I won't be exercising in the mornings, having sex, running errands, being Sister Friendly at church, making fancy dinners, decorating the nursery, wearing a bra or cleaning my house. I am a little bummed that I won't be able to check off the long list of things I want to do before the baby comes. But everything can wait..
I will, however, be doing lots of good things-- like homeschooling, reading, having a daily bubble bath, sewing, watching movies, playing games, taking afternoon naps and enjoying my little family. I have an awesome husband who totally knows how to throw together a quick dinner and doesn't mind a few dishes in the sink. My kids could not be more cooperative. They clean their messes, do homework without complaint and quickly grab me the things I need-- not to mention give me the freedom to take long baths/afternoon naps! I truly feel blessed and I am going to enjoy this time to LAY LOW and CHILL OUT. What a great excuse to be lazy!
Isn't it amazing how badly we want to do things when we can't? I didn't realize how MUCH I wanted to exercise in the morning until it wasn't an option. A few weeks ago, the thought of sitting on the couch for hours at a time would seem like vacation! But now that it's mandatory, I find myself completely frustrated. I guess the grass really is greener somewhere else. I've had several conversations with moms who are pregnant longer than 40 weeks--- and I know that's annoying in it's own right. But NOT being able to do the things you want to before the baby is born isn't very much fun either. I am just very grateful it's only going to be a couple of weeks... HOW on Earth do mothers go on bed rest for longer than that?? And how terribly sad is it that it's supposed to be 84 degrees today in Vegas? Such a great day for an adventure outside. Oh well.
Anyway, that's the pregnancy status for now. I suppose I will be updating my blog frequently with the amount of down time I currently have. I am thinking about making Zack a baby book before the next is born... something to keep me busy and feeling less guilty about him not having his own book. The majority of his life is documented on the blog, anyway. It shouldn't be hard to pull it together. My big dilemma is deciding whether I should go digital and hard bound or cutesy/scrapbooky like his older brothers. Both are time consuming, but time is what I have... if I play my cards right and this baby doesn't come before we're all ready.
Speaking of playing cards, Go Fish has been dealt and my name is being summoned to the bunk-bed-fort. We're taking a break from reading Fabelhaven to play a few games. It's incredible how excited your kids can get when you tell them that we are officially having a pajama party for two weeks!!

ps. I repainted the boys' bedroom. This used to be the navy blue Star Wars room... I will post better pictures later (like, maybe after they make their beds...)

not this cute anymore!

Oh gosh Janet! Good luck! How exciting that you are getting close though! Stay put! Babies in the NICU are NO fun for sure. Just relax and take advantage of it. I remember when I hit this point in my last pregnancy and I hated that I could not get everything done I wanted and it was out or my control. Luckily you kiddos are so helpful! Can't wait to see updates all the time! Take care!
WOW! I knew you would go early, but this is a bit too early. Good luck chilling out. That's not exactly easy for YOU to do!
Wish I was closer and could take the boys outside for you! keep us updated.
BY THE WAY, the halloween theme on your blog is just too cute. You should design blog layouts. how did you do those cute pumpkin tab buttons?
Janet you are fantastic and I don't comment to tell you that enough. I'm on bedrest too and although it's frustrating there are a few "silver lining" things I love about it - #1 It gives me a chance to breathe. I love getting caught up on the journal, scripture study, meditation, good book, chick flicks etc. All the things that seem to get put off are now front and center and it helps me to reevaluate my life and remember what's important. #2 It gives me a good excuse to CANCEL EVERYTHING!! I love the things that fill my life, but they can be overwhelming sometimes and it's just nice to be able to cancel it all and not feel guilty about it. Good luck with that sweet baby! Love ya girl!
Oh janet! you hang in there! & let me know if you need anything from the store or what have you, i'll be happy to help.
I love how you just nonchalantly threw "having sex" in your list. Hope your husband enjoys the rest too!!
Good luck!
I got the notice about your shower cancelation. I am so sorry! What great friends you have!
I haven't really read up on your blog, but I just notice how EVERYTHING in your life has a silver lining. It's so uplifting to read about what you're doing, even if it's bed rest!!!!!
Take care and enjoy the next couple of weeks. Let me know what I can do to help
oh, and I like the wearing no bra comment. wouldn't we all love to go two weeks without a bra?
but the no sex thing has to be NO FUN for your awesome husband.
Good luck with the bed rest. I was on it for one weekend and I thought I was going to die. (I know, such a motivational comment, but it is true.) We are praying for you. Oh yeah, all week Andrew has been playing with Ben and Luke. He found some old pictures of Ben and Luke and now he pretends to play with them. He says "I am playing with Ben and Luke from Vegas" He knows what Vegas is from So you think you can dance. Don't you just love how they pick up on everything!
been there done that! In 5 pregnancies I spent 4 on bedrests that ranged from 3 weeks to 5 months... I hear your concerns for the list that's not ready yet...but really if it isn't a first baby that list is just a dream anyway.
I remember day long games of monopoly, teaching the kids to play chess, reading lots of books, more games, movies, great chats... we even put matresses on the floor in one room and it really did feel like the longest slumber party ever.
Good luck, hope you can hang in there a few more weeks.
thanks for everyone's encouraging comments. I've felt like a lazy slob on vacation so far-- and we still have many more days to go.
As far as Aaron dealing with the no fooling around.. I figure not wearing a bra for two weeks should be enough excitement for him. Maybe not, though. I am just preparing him for the post-baby stage.
hey girlie! just enjoy your time off and spend every second with those cute boys of yours. who cares about dishes or parties? things will get crazy enough once the new baby comes--- look at this as some good focus on the family time. :)
and if you need anything let me know. i'm totally willing to run to the grocery store for you, or come set up the nursery, or bring you some dinner... seriously, let me know! :)
yeah, hang in there. Your boys sound like they have everything under control. Try to relax and keep that baby cookin. I am very jealous of your weather. Cole is there interviewing today. We are about 40 degrees cooler here. I am thinking it will be a great place to move to.
oh, and Ellis totally has the same bed as your boys but in white. I love to use it as a guest room because we can fit three people in the bed. Do the three boys sleep there? Their room is very cool. I love the gray and orange.
No more navy blue bedroom? I LIKE the blue and brown- super classy! Maybe you can work on my blog books... that could keep you busy for 5 weeks for sure. Or maybe I'll call you & get a few pointers that I've forgotten before you have that baby---- while you have lots of down time!
Take care of yourself Janet. Feel free to call anytime you get bored. We will be praying for you and baby #4.
Bummer! Bed rest is no fun, but you're right-NICU is worse! Glad you're getting a chance to chill and relax before little boy #4 comes along. Do you guys have a name picked out yet? I don't remember seeing one on the blog...maybe you know and are not telling :)
I'm glad your boys are taking such good care of you. They are such sweeties!
And I love the paint job in their room. I'd love to see more picture - I'm thinking of doing a similar color scheme in my boys' room and I might copy your large orange stripe idea, if you don't mind!
Lindsay-- I always love your comments. I think our day to day lives are very similar!
As far as names for the baby, we are completely undecided. Aaron has known he was choosing the name for months now.. and he's a total procrastinator. He teases us with names that he likes. Most of them (I hope) are a joke. Now that he technically CAN name a son Soren, I don't think he will. Anyway, I think we will have to wait until he's born to know what to call him.
And as far as the boys room goes-- copy all you want. But know that I am no professional. I will try to post more pictures soon..
ps. can you believe I am commenting on my own blog at 4 am? I have such a crazy sleeping schedule lately!
