my buddy and me

If you're still singing a slogan for a doll two decades after it aired on TV, you know it's a good commercial. Did anyone ever actually have a KID SISTER doll? I was never fortunate enough.

Simon got a vintage Cabbage Patch doll for Christmas. It's about twenty-some-odd-years old. My younger brothers (how are they possibly twenty-some-odd-years old?) used to play with it, although I doubt they would ever admit to it. My mom gave it to Simon because she figured if any family needed a doll, it was ours. Sad to say, he has only been a victim of violence in our house... He's survived a gang beating on the trampoline, a stabbing through the heart, and several thousand pretend bullet shots. He doesn't need a parachute when flying down our stairs and he makes a fantastic ball for soccer games in our living room. I have put my foot down and said the doll is no longer allowed out of Simon's crib. My boys think he's in prison, but really I am protecting him from further abuse. I don't know if Simon will actually "play" with it, but I need him to survive for Simon to make that decision for himself. So far, I think Simon is jealous he's got more hair and bothered he's taking up crib space...

for the Grandparents, there are clips of Simon's floppy head on the video blog.

too funny! If you ever have a girl, she will probably constantly be protecting her dolls and barbies. And I LOVE the picture of Simon on your sidebar yawning. So stinking cute.

That's funny, Tyler and I were just singing the My Buddy/Kid Sister song the other day. I don't remember why? I never had one either.

I don't know if Kelly would survive watching your boys play with a doll like that. She literally would have a breakdown. The older my kids get, the more amusing the difference is between boys and girls...although my gun-toting, soldier-loving son has been seen pushing dolls in his sister's doll stroller.

Love that commerical. We downloaded the song a year or two ago cuz my younger son loved it so much. Wish I would have taped him singing it.

I needed this post today, I really did. Thanks for the laugh. I ALWAYS sing that little jingle. I never had a Kid Sister and felt a little jipped. I would protect that cabbage patch doll with all your might. Way to put your foot down.

That dang song still lingers in my mind. Great post. Good luck surviving the big bros Simon!
