Monday Movie Review-- take 2

Who wouldda thunk that I'd be back with a movie review? Not I.

This past weekend we took our kids to see Iron Man 2. It was the first Saturday in YEARS where we didn't have anything pressing to do... Okay, maybe not years, but it sure seems like it. The older boys and I dropped off Simon with a sitter and met Daddy at the theater after his tennis match. We went to a matinee before lunch. In case you were wondering, two adults and three kids at a matinee runs about $37. Before we forked over our life's savings, the ticketer asked if I wanted to donate $1 to the theater's charity. I was shocked by the question. I just paid $37 to sit in your theater... Please take one or two of those dollars and shove it wherever you'd like. What is this world coming to anyway?

We entered the theater and approached the concession stand. The lady at the register asked me if we wanted the "combo special"= two drinks and one large popcorn for $18. That is a special? I said no thank you and whipped out a coupon for a free popcorn with the purchase of a large drink. Too bad drinks cost $6.75. I really want to know want to know who takes their kids to the movies on a regular basis. You should probably post anonymously because I will tell you're stupid for not getting a $1 redbox at the local gas station (where soft drinks and popcorn will set you back about $1.25.)

Anyway, back to the movie review. Iron Man 2 is rated PG-13. Judge me if you will for taking my 4 year old. There was a lot of explosions and a lot of action. The language was relatively clean except for a bleeped out F word. There was no sex... but several sexual innuendos-- none of which our kids understood. I felt very comfortable taking my kids. And they loved every minute of it. They were in little boy heaven and it might have been worth $37 to see the looks on their faces in that dark theater.

Did I like the movie? Not really. There was no storyline. It was NOTHING like the first Iron Man, which I found highly entertaining. I believe they added a ton of famous actors because they didn't have the substance for anything else. I was disappointed and recommend to the rest of you to wait until it comes out on video. It's two hours long and honestly just not worth sitting in a theater for. But that's just my opinion. I give it a solid B-. My kids gave it an A+. But I wouldn't trust their opinion. They watch (and love) Ben 10 Alien Force and Wow Wow Wubbsy.

I will tell you what I would pay good money to watch... SURVIVOR.

Last night was the season finale and oh.my.goodness. it was fabulous. We wouldn't let our kids watch it yesterday (it was Sunday after all.) But we said they could watch it first thing this morning-- which is a special occasion because TV doesn't get turned on before lunch around here. Aaron and I got up at 5 am to run. Guess who was already up watching Survivor? Luke. Pretty impressive for a kid who can sleep in until noon.

I seriously didn't want to go on the run, knowing that Luke was curled up on our couch watching the greatest television show ever created. I told him he could watch it as long as he didn't say a word when I got back. We walked in the door at 5:45 (pretty sad for a 3 mile run. I am totally holding my man back. But what I can't do in speed, I make up for in style. He even told me I looked cute this morning. I believe it was the sunrise reflecting off my sleepy eyes.) Anyway, when we came back at 5:45, we found Ben, Luke and Zack cuddled up on the couch. It's THAT good people. It will get your kids out of bed like nothing I've ever seen before.

Am I happy with the outcome? Let me just say when the final vote was read, I got off my couch and screamed with delight. I couldn't be happier or more proud of Sandra. I LOVE that her husband is in Afghanistan and she just earned her second million dollar paycheck by playing Survivor. I love how she said, "This is what I do for a living." Oh man. It was so good that I might have to watch it again. I loved watching Russell squirm. I do not believe he should have gotten America's vote. He's NOT a good player, people. His social game sucks. You can't factor out the fact that your teammates vote for a winner. Beauty pageant directors should seriously talk to Mark Burnett. Everyone wants Miss Congeniality to take home the crown. It makes for an awesome ending.

As far as JT making the "biggest mistake" of the season, I totally disagree. He had some type of strategy behind his play. Granted, he was totally wrong but there is NO DOUBT that Tyson (the Mormon) made the stupidest mistake. His dumb move changed the entire game. I wonder who would have been sitting in those final seats had Tyson been smarter... possibly Sandra. And that's what makes her a freakin' champion.

Oh man. I love that show. I really want to be a contestant on an upcoming season. I think I need to submit a new tape for auditions. I NEED to be chosen. Any suggestions on what to do? Take off my top? I would seriously do whatever it takes to play a socially strategic game like that. Who knows if I could play it well... but I dream about it at night. Sandra is my hero.

ok I SOOOO love that you are a survivor fan. I liked Russell in the last season and I was rooting for him this season on the side, but I have to say I lost respect for him when he let his emotions get the better of his strategy. That was his downfall. Tyson's mistake was in fact the HUGEST one of the season. Dang I love that show!
