I would make my Mommy Janet tell me stories! Mommy Janet is the best enthusiastic story teller!

What all moms should do with their daughters: shop and pamper themselves.

I would want to go on a homeschooling field trip...not to the mortuary though... LOVE YOU JANET!

This is easy. She's my mom even longer then 24 hours. I would play rummikub and skip bo and beat her at it!

Oooo... great question! First, I'd like to start off with one of those awesome sunrise yoga hikes she's always talking about. Then I'd want to go on another fun hike/nature walk which would end in a yummy picninc. Then I'd want to spend the evening relaxing and having her read me books. Oh to be a kid again and have Janet be my mom for a day! I hope those fun boys know how good they've got it!

Oh how I wish this would really come true. I would pick Janet's brain for every second of the 24 hours about Homeschooling. I would have to tell me everything she knows from where to begin to the benefits and logistics of it all. I would watch her in action as she teaches her precious 4 boys. Then maybe we'd go for a run and come home and watch some lame show and eat some yummy dessert. It would be awesome and wonderful and I'd walk away so edified. Happy Birthday Janet!

I would want to go on one of those sunrise hikes too... I'm fairly certain that she's better than most at being a mom, so I'd just like to watch her in her element- just so I could be like her.

Sorry I was the one who deleted the last comment, I noticed I spelled four words so bad not even I could read them! If Janet was my mom for a day I think it would be an absolute adventure from the moment we woke up until bed time stories. Janet is an amazing mom!

If Janet were my mom for 24 hours, I would play games with her all day. She is creative and enthusiastic, and happy.

If Janet was my mom, I'd probably have an oedipal complex but would be happy to run around while playing Rummikub and going on a field trip to California Pizza Kitchen and making my own pizza and learning about the dietary habits of mantodea ("praying mantis" to the lay person) all while she plans an entire ward dutch oven party in her head.

I would just follow her around with a camera all day and I'd end up with the best reality show ever.

I would want Janet to help me figure out who I am and help me discover my talents and how to share them with the world. I think she brings out the best in everyone and I would want her to do that with me. Even if we just ran errands, I know I could learn that from her in a day.

I'd want to stay up all night, eat a bunch of junk food, watch a chick-flick, maybe dance around the house a little bit, and hear a bunch of stories about how she was and what she wanted to be when she was a little girl. In other words, I'd want to do a bunch of girly stuff that she doesn't get to do with her boys!

I'd LOVE to be your daughter, Janet! I always try to channel your patience with my own kids. I would for sure want to be homeschooled, go on a field trip, spend time at the pool (because it's ALWAYS hot enough to swim in Vegas, right?), watch a movie... If I spent a day with you as my mom, I am sure that I would learn to focus on what's important, to be patient with every little question, and that service to others is the key to happiness.

I would want to sleep in, go swimming and to the park, tell jokes on our way to Sonic for a drink, watch a movie and take a nap, help her make a yummy dinner and cookies, watch some reality tv show, and then stay up chit-chatting in bed until we fell asleep!

I would just want to sit and watch you get all you do done. So I could see how you do it all. You are amazing and have the best attitude. Always so positive and thoughtful.

If Janet were my mom I would want to learn how she manages home school, house cleaning, cooking, FHE, and just how to be an amazing mom. She is such a good example to me.

I LOVE Janet's nonjudgmental advice.
I would want to sit around all day and tell her all my problems cause I know she would still love me.
(I wish I could do this with my own mother...I think that is where Janet gets it)
And then I would have her give me a writing and computer lesson. I know she would probably give me instructions and leave me alone with the computer to figure it out.
Janet is an amazing mother! She does trust her kids to figure things out. Those boys are much more independent than my clingy girls. I can't wait to spend a whole week learning from you.
Lilly would want to learn to be smart from you.

I could definitely learn time management, priorities and good cooking from Janet! You have so many amazing skills and wonderful characteristics that I hope to someday acquire. You're a wonderful mother and person!

If Janet were my mom, I would learn how to homeschool in a way that would instill in my children a love of learning. She can make my 3 year old sit still while she talks about historical figures! I would also learn how to make the best cookies ever!

emily said...

I would want to cook with her! Janet is a fabulous cook and likes to try new things. Everything I've eaten that she has made is delicious! I'm sure she has great moments in the kitchen with her boys!

I would love to learn how Janet just has the know how to cut, draw, or even hang things STRAIGHT without even trying to measure them. She has a project done before I even could get it started. I also admire her love of books and would enjoy reading more! She could teach me how to paint walls in stripes!! She's also a very good cook, and can plan dinners for hundreds of people!! I admire you, Janet, and am very proud of you!! Love, Mom

If Janet were my mommy for 24 hours, we would go shopping. She could tell me I look fat in something and do it in a way that I would not feel horrible about myself, yet I would clearly understand that I should not get the outfit. I would get an honest answer and a fun day full of laughing.
Happy Birthday Janet!!

If Janet were my mom for a day, I would want to learn all about website making. Janet, you are the smartest person I know when it comes computers. I want to know everything you know. And after my HTML class, I would like to go on some fun field trips.

I would just like to watch her in action for a day as a mom and find out how does so many amazing things in 1 day (like make homemade spaghetti sauce & bread, home school her kids, still be a good mom to all 4 and be a fun wife).

If I got to spend a day with Janet and company, I wouldn't care to do anything out of the ordinary; I would just do whatever the family is doing that day. It seems that no matter what she is doing, she is EXCITED FOR LIFE and whatever it will bring. I love how Janet inspires and pumps people up to face another day of whatever it is going to be.

I wouldn't play games with her cause she CHEATS. I would probably go to the zoo or Cherry Hill or Lagoon and eat hoagies and lollipops and then go to the drive-in.

I'd want to hike red rock and get a slushy from Sonic...THEN I'd want her to read out of a book to me...then we can make homemade banana bread (my recipe of course), then watch the bachelorette and top off the 24 hours with planning the next reunion...or not. :)

I think I would just want to hang out with Janet as she does her normal day. When we went to Las Vegas last, her and I drove to Sams Club to do some quick shopping and it was so much fun to hang out with her and just talk.

Cody said...

Um, I could pretty much learn everything from her! They should make one of those "Everything I need to know I learned from Janet" posters. She cooks, cleans, home schools, but mostly I would just want to talk with her all day because she always has interesting thoughts and UH-MAZING stories to share.

anet WAS my mom this summer. I slept under her roof, I drove her car, I ate her food. It was a blast. I learned that Janet really is about having fun! I learned first hand that she really does do crazy and spontaneous things regularly.
We spent our time swimming, going on field trips like the mortuary, watching movies, making yummy food, going to the library, talking, and much, much more.
I learned so much from her just by being with her daily. She makes me want to be a strong, determined individual. I learned to a greater degree that Janet is not afraid to speak her mind or be completely herself.
She really is such a fun mom. She's almost always up for doing something crazy!
I want to be a mom like Janet is. I will follow her example when that time comes.

She could teach me how to blog.

I would want to play flash light tag! My kids still talk about that. Janet is a kid at heart and it makes her a great mom! I would like to learn to be able to manage my time like Janet. She accomplishes a lot in a day and makes it look easy. I am always learning from Janet. I'm grateful to be her friend! :)

That was from me, Kelly. Sorry I am not a blogger!

I would love to have Janet for my mom! I would love to eat and just talk about anything. She has so many interesting things to teach!

I would probably want to go do something fun like go to an amusement park or swimming pool. It's fun to just hang out with Janet, so those things with her would be double fun.

stan said...

I'd just sit there and listen to her 5,000 compliments about how wonderful I am. Like I've said before....I definitely want her to speak at my funeral!

I would want to wake up in a hut or maybe a tent in the living room. Then eat some unhealthy sugar cereal for breakfast. Next, go on a treasure hunt all around the neighborhood. Pack a yummy lunch and take it to the park for a picnic (play family feud on the way there). Go on a short hike at the park-or maybe it is a long hike all of the way up the mountain. Then on the way home stop at the zoo for a few hours because it is free to feed the animals today. Get popcorn while we are at the zoo. On the way home, stop to see some new fish at the aquarium because we have a coupon. Oh ya, just one ride on the Stratosphere before we head home. Get home with still tons energy. Order buy one get one free pizzas and get in our jammies. Turn on a good movie. Then stay up all night laughing and having good conversation about real life stuff. I love you Janny!

I would follow her around with a pad of paper taking notes all day. I want to learn how she does such a great job teaching her kids. I want to know her secret to juggling all her projects.

If Janet were my mom I think I would have got into less trouble and for sure I wouldn't have got as many whippings! She would never do that! Janet is so funny, patient and warm to be around. She was about 15 when Kristy and I got married. I remember a ton of fun times all these years.

Jennifer said...

Kevin tells me you go on fun neighborhood field trips to different places. I think that would be fun. I also hear that you are excited about everything when you teach. Maybe I would learn some math so I could get excited about teaching that subject.

She keeps telling me how easy it is to make homemade bread and, in particular, her delicious bread bowls, but it would take me at least 24 hours to learn how. I appreciate her confidence and patience! She really believes I could do it.....

Wendy said...

If Janet was my mom for 24 hours, I'd just go along for the ride. Her life seems to never be dull and she and her boys are always up to some kind of mischief or adventure. If my kids knew about how much fun the Shumways have, they'd be petitioning for adoption.

Jade said...

wow 24 hours is not long enough. i would love to cook with janet and shop and talk talk talk. she does it all!

HAYHAY said...

I'd have her give me a little Blogging lesson. Also, I'd want to learn all about homeschooling and her thoughts on motherhood... man could I have her for a week instead of a day?

Brooke said...

I'd let her be in charge of the day because I am positive that whatever she came up with would be an ADVENTURE!
I'd also like to follow her around for one day in her element and see her 'mommying' in action- I'm sure that I could learn a ton just watching her interact with her boys- she is a great mom.

Jenn said...

I'd want her to take me to the morgue, cafe rio, hiking, and to the drive in.

I'd like her to teach me how she deals with life with such finesse.

I think that my mom was a lot like Janet. They both have this crazy way of working on a lot of things at the same time. Grandma Roma loved Janet and loved being around her. She was not afraid to try something new or speak her mind. I am sure that they both have had a great many friends and were and are a great influence on others.
