This afternoon, I found a big chunk of hair on the bathroom tile... laying next to my kitchen sheers. My immediate thought was Zack (aka Scissorhands) was left alone for too long. But the hair was dark, so I wondered if Luke let Zack cut his hair. Because SURELY Ben wasn't involved.. and I don't think either of my older boys would ever do that to themselves! I found Luke and he didn't know what I was talking about. And a minute later, I was shocked to find Ben like this:
What SIX (almost SEVEN) year old does this to their own hair?? I mean, I have heard of the terrible two's before, but I am totally speechless over this!! I honestly don't know what to say. and Ben doesn't either because when I ask him why he cut his own hair he just shrugs his shoulders. I guess it's already time for the summer buzz...... GEEZ Louise!
And this is just a few hours later...
when my boys don't have any hair,
their eyebrows and EYELASHES seem so much more defined.
He's lucky he has such a cute face!!

not this cute anymore!

I know the shock. I found my oldest when he was six almost seven with the same problem. A buzz is all you can do. Jacks was so short because he buzzed clear to the scalp, how attractive. No style just recourse. Good Luck!
Laurene, so glad to hear that your well behaved kids had the same problem. There is hope!
and this is another great reward of homeschooling... no one will really notice the drastic haircut!
at least he won't get made fun of at school! when i was 5 years old i found a pair of large shearing scissors. my sister was one and had long beautiful hair. i snuck into her room leaned over her crib and snipped her hair off while she was sleeping. can you imagine. i have no recollection of this, but my mum said her first thought was, i hope she still has her eyes! freaky!!
LOL...Mike whose eight thought he was going to get away with cutting his hair. He was pretty sneaky, because I didn't know until the school called to tell me his finger was bleeding. When they asked him what happened he confessed that he tried to cut his hair with his dad's razor. Lucky he didn't do as much damage to the hair as he did his finger. Ouch!!! It was a bleeder.
Ok- I totally cut my own hair when I was 5-6yrs old. My friend and I played "barber shop" and cut our own hair and then shoved the cut hair under my bed. I remember sitting down at the dinner table and my parents just staring at me (apparently I didn't think that they would notice). Duh! The next day I had a cute little bob cut! (at least you can shave his head because he is a boy).
That reminds me- I should probably hide my sheers from the 3 yr old!
oh my word, Janet, I am speechless! Although I don't think it's weird that a six year old did something like this, it's just not BEN's personality! That is too funny...but not really! He's got such a darling face though, and boys hair grows back so fast...no biggie, right?
So sorry, mama! but I am very glad he is a boy because girls can't pull of a buzz quite as well.
Audrey cut her own hair at least 3 times. She even cut her stuffed animal fur, perhaps since her hair grew back she'd think the stuffed animals hair would too? She also had a dress (that I loved) but evidently she did not because she came home and cut off all the buttons (with fabric) so was impossible to fix. I got to where I would check the garbage cans periodically for clues on what she had done...
If it makes you feel any better, my nine year old niece did the same thing a couple of months ago. (And everyone said to her "isn't that something a five year old does?")
And hey, what happened to your last post? That was great stuff!
oh that is so funny, kind of, i would be mad, but cole would totally do the same thing if i ever let him play with scissors....which is why i don't. my sister and my cousin cut each others hair really short when then were seven, nothing like playing beauty parlor...=) good thing he's such a cutie too, becuase he can still pull off a chop job!
My younger brother has the longest eyelashes I've ever seen on a guy and when he was about the same age he cut them all off- if you think a short haircut looks bad you should see what someone looks like with various lengths of eyelashes....weird!
Janet, I am Terica's SIL and she sent me over here because I am in the "homeschooling quandry." I have enjoyed reading your thoughts on the issue. We seem to have similar reasons for wanting to do it. And I don't know if it is a temporary glitch or not, but I was able to access this site from your old one without a problem? Maybe it's because I already have a blogger account? Just an FYI. But I am not a crazy person, I promise. Just someone who MIGHT be crazy for giving up my "me" time to have my kids with me 24/7...
Steph- I knew a girl in elementary who had no eyelashes... cause she would pull them out and eat them. now THAT is weird. Don't they grow back, though? yes, I guess i am glad he cut his hair and not his eyelashes.. that is dangerous.
and Paige-- hello and welcome. I always love connecting with other homeschooling moms.. even if you're just a wannabe right now! my blog is no longer private, so you should be able to get in just fine.. and so should all the crazies that might be stalking.
what to do... what to do...
Ben looks adorable with a buzz cut. It is always so much easier to do their hair too! He does have such beautiful eyes.
I just spent a good portion of my afternoon reading your blog, and I don't even feel bad about it! I just keep laughing and laughing. You are so clever and funny and REAL! I hope I can be just like you someday. By the way, I was thinking of making my blog private, you don't think it's a good idea? What about all of those crazy's in the world?
Jill-- I do thing going private is a great idea.. as long as you have some type of reference page where people can email you if they want to be invited.. everyone should be private, including me....
ahh the fun. I can't wait till that happens to me. Just be glad he didn't hurt himself. At least hair grows back.
Yikes! At least he's a boy so you can buzz it right?
I think that super well-behaved Ben is entitled to some craziness every now and again. I love that he just shrugged when you asked him why...he must seriously not know. The devil made him do it. :) I echo what Kelly said - at least he's a boy so a buzz totally works. And he DOES have such a cute face!
Great haircut, Janet. At least he's a boy, and he looks cute with a buzz. I don't know what I'll do if Rebecca ever does that to her hair.
That is hilarious. I know that you probably didn't think so at the time. But just think of how you now have the story documented for the future. Love it.
OH my word, maybe he'll grow up being a great barber! :) Atleast he's a boy and shaving it all off is an appropriate hair cut, and of course good thing he has a cute little face!
Don't feel bad. Ethan has done it TWICE now, and when I asked him why he just said he wanted a cool haircut. How can you argue with that? Maybe I should let him cut his own hair anyway, becuase when I cut it he just screams the whole time that he is itchy. Boys, boys, boys...you just can't win!
Love the buz cut! Aren't those the best? Makes life SO much easier! I've considered doing it to myself at time, but not too seriously:)
